Ignoring what the players and Mancini are bound to say about this game this is definitely a huge game for us. I remember after this game Roma were psychologically bruised that within a week we could come from behind them and overtake them.

This team has the same opportunity this Saturday but Roma are not a team easily fooled twice. Mancio is going to have his players in optimal condition and find some kind of alternative to Zlatan because I can guarantee you he is going to get double teamed out of this game.

Roma have been playing really well lately and their entire team is functioning as a unit w/ and w/o Totti. Lets hope their action packed game against Fiorentina has them drained.

Few of our players can compete w/ Roma's on a technical level and as such we are going to have to rely on our superior physical play in this one. I remember Vieira having a solid game in the midfield last year. Hope he is able to make a comeback.

Huge game for obvious reasons that don't need to be explained. They've had our number for the last few games and I believe it's time to put an end to that.

HUGE GAME
and I really hope Totti is out of this one too considering we are playing at Olimpico it will be very very difficult
the only thing I can hope for now is a good game and good win against Roma
gonna be a great morale boost and a good position on a first spot
enough said, eagerly anticipating it

Despite the victory against Sampdoria, we're still underdogs here. Roma have been unlucky against both Fiorentina and Juve, probably deserved to win both games. I think their recent draws works against us, as they'll be fired up as hell against us at the Olimpico.

The main reason we struggle against Roma is their tactic is basically perfect to shut our team down. The speed at which they move the ball through th middle of the park means that we need our absolute best players (i.e. Vieira and Cambiasso) to get themselves into the right positions to cut out passes- Dacourt and (as much as it pains me to say it) Capitano dont have the ability to nullify them. We also need the rest of our midfield (I believe will be Deki and Figo, shame for Cesar since he's been doing well) to put in 110% in tracking up and down the field to stick with players like Pizarro, Perrotta and De Rossi. Because their midfield pushes so high up, however, they are extremely vulnerable to quick counter-attacks. Unfortunately, we arent the quickest team going around so it is unlikely we'll be able to full expose this. I expect Mancini has figured this out already however, so I think we may well see Suazo get a run in the second half (assuming hes not a complete fool and starts with Ibra and Crespo again). This isnt a team that Adri can try to return to form against, I think we may see him left out- a poacher like Cruz may actually be better for us IMO. The defence really needs to sure itself up, but I'm glad its Capitano at RB as opposed to Maicon, Capitano may not have the flair but is much more defensively sound. The possible inclusion of Chivu I dont think will have any real impact (possibly makes us more dangerous from set pieces), but if he starts I believe it should be a CB with Samuel as Maxwell's attacking runs could expose players like Giuly and Cicinho (who is defensively useless- even Spaletti said so).

Personally, I'd like to see us adopting a 4-5-1- similarly to what we played in the second leg of the Coppa last year. We dominated that game, and were unlucky not to win by more. It would, however, involve dropping Ibra deeper and have him playing off Crespo. Not all bad, as he's much better receiving ball the ball at his feet. This tactic just means we have more numbers in midfield, we're less likely to be overrun by them. I would also like to see Burdisso be given the job on Totti again, he's done well recently and it'll be good for him to get the experience.

My team:

---------------------J.Cesar------------------

--Capitano------Samuel----Burdisso(maybe Chivu)-------Maxwell

------------Cambiasso---------Vieira(Dacourt)-------------

----Figo------------------------------------------Deki------

---------------------Ibra--------------------------------
---------------------------Crespo

With Cambiasso pushing further forward when we attack, Ibra pushing back when we defend. I doubt Figo can run out the game, so maybe swap him with Cesar later on. Could possibly move Zanetti into the DMC role instead of Dacourt, but I dont believe we'll get the most out of him.If Crespo tires/isnt threatening (which isnt likely to happen, he's always threatening) replace him with Suazo. With Ibra playing deeper and (hopefully)Vieira infront of defence, we have two excellent passers of the ball who can feed his speed.

ur crazy if u play chivu at centre half...didnt anyone learn their lesson last yr.

i would play crespo with ibra bcoz crespo killed roma whenever he played them last season. suazo should be given a real go as well bcoz he can really threaten juan's pace and mexes has been caught out a few times with genuine pace as well.

burdisso over cordoba as well bcoz he owned totti in the coppa italia final 2nd leg last season.

i hope maicon can play as well

To be honest I think Vieira will not be ready for this match,
My lineup is:

----------------JC-----------------
Zanetti---Samuel--Cordoba--Maxwell
----Dacourt---Cambiasso--Cesar/Deki
--------------Figo-----------------
--------Ibra-----------Crespo------

pretty much same choice for us against Roma consider how well the team did in last game and consider the lack of option we have

If there's any team Chivu knows how to play CB against it'll be Roma. He's trained with Totti, Vucinic etc for 2 years, he should know their movements like the back of his hand. Burdisso to start, but I'd play Chivu ahead of Cafe.

I agree that Cesar deserves to start ahead of Deki (particularly if Mancini wants someone to play a wide role), but I think he'll have more faith in Deki.

lol yeh the old "if theres anyone who knows how to play dere it will be him bcoz he trained wit them".....yeah bcoz he gets more of an inside knowledge of wats goin on than the scouts and videos that the inter staff watch. there's been so many examples of players going back to play their old teams and that theory been used and nothing came out of it.

go bak 2 orb lenny and carl, mayb they'll believe ur shtt there.

lol

do you guys watch inter play or just watch ibra??

knowing how roma plays with their midfield, there's no way in hell we can start figo and stankovic as wide players....both have been piss poor on covering and following their mark since the season has begun....

figo cannot start unless we're playing the diamond midfield
if stan has to play, he has to play in a restricted role in centre/defensive mid where he doesn't have much running to do..if he plays wide, he usually runs out of position and causes our wing backs to be exposed..

cesar has to start...he compliments maxwell in both attack and defense..without maicon, our main width has to come from that side..

and please, stop making reference to the game against roma LAST YEAR.....against a crappy sampdoria team today, crespo looked below par...suazo has been shit because he is only looking to play for himself and trying to score...cruz......don't even bother...

seeing how much trouble trezeguet and iaquinta gave mexes and juan, i say we start with the big boys up front, ibra and adri....even if they don't score, they can physically wear down the roma defense....
roma usualy tires at the end of games too, so then, we can bring on suazo and hope he gets lucky with a quick run...

tbh, the best way to play roma is to play hard defense in the first half, then bring on you counter-attack/fast weapons in the second...
bring on stan and suazo around 65min....stan can launch those long balls from the back and suazo can run on to it...

my 2cents

Someone upset they didnt get invited, plus you've spelt it wrong;)

Take it easy Enzo, we're not actually picking the team for Mancini here. I'm just suggesting that, given our (due to Cordoba's recent poor form) recent defensive problems bring Chivu is an option for us. There are endless examples of players playing exceptionally well against their old club (whether it be transfer/loan), hopefully we can see a bit of that from Chivu. You think the Inter coaching staff/scouts no more about Roma than a player who played there for 2 or 3 years? I disagree. The camera only picks up so much, and even when you attend live you dont get to see everything. If you watch a training session you get to see every players individual qualities highlighted, plus he may have been able to pick up on individual tendancies from each player. His match fitness will no doubt be an issue though, which is why I doubt he'll start.

Nerazzuri4Life, I think the main issue with Adri at the moment is his finishing isnt quite up to scratch. Against Livorno and Sampdoria we had numerous chances to score, but against Roma we may only create one or two and we need to make the most of it. Crespo is our most reliable finisher, thats the sole reason he should start. Agree that past record against a team counts for sweet FA, particularly since they've reconstructe their defence. I also think having Figo and Stankovic playing wide could stretch De Rossi and whoever else plays DM, but it could also leave us vulnerable in the middle which is why I'd only use the tactic if we had Vieira and Cuchu. These two can handle it, wouldnt risk it with Dacourt etc

i absolutely agree, unfortunately it seems mancini has the same brain capacity as lenny and carl above.

lets play jimenez ahead of figo or stankovic or whoever against lazio bcoz he knows lazio more recently than those players, even if it is a do or die match. :dielaugh:

as Vieira probably won't make it so my lineup:

------------------JC----------------

--Zanetti---Cordoba--Samuel--Chivu--

-------Deki------Oli----Chuchu-------

----------------Figo-----------------

-----------Crespo---Ibra-------------

This isn't the type of game Adri should continue his recovery with, Suazo would definitely see some action in the second half. My only concern are the '3' in our 4312 formation, are those three capable enough to restrict roma's Midfield at the "Olimpico"?

Well i always say this before the Roma game and unfortunately it seems that we dont learn the lesson..Anyways we need to defend our asses off and be on 110% concentration in the first minutes. We canNOT concede early like every game we play against Roma..

If we dont concede early our chances will be great as they usually are the more the game goes on. Usually they get tired and we get stronger and wear them out physically.

We know Ibra will have two shadows in this one so Mancio better be preparing something else for them..Too bad Maicon is out.

Roma are in good shape but we have to prove everybody who is the boss.

We need to be concentrated and not let them beat us again.

We should be very prudent this match. It would be better to start with Chivu in LB because he is more defensive than Maxwell(although Maxwell is better in attack I think we should defend very precise). Secondly I think Crespo should start in atack with Zlatan because we saw that they find each other very well ( suazo to enter in second half) With very precise and CLEAN defending they should crack and we will be able to score. A win would be a great boost for our morale ahead of the match against PSV. With a little concentration, precission and wits we could achive 2 triumphant victories in our next matches

I think Inter will stick to playing the 4-4-2 formation and I expect Mancio to play Chivu as left back since Maxwell can't defend so well and Roma are so dangerous on the flanks. It will be tough as some said before we really need to close Roma down we can't let them play the ball around easily like they always do and not only that you have to keep a close eye on a player like Aquilani who can score from anywhere. There is no doubt that this will be our biggest test of the season till now and we have to show everyone how good we could be. The formation I'm expecting is:

----------Ibrahimovic-----Crespo-------------
---------------------------------------------
-Cesar/Maxwell-Dacourt-Cambiasso-Stankovic-
---------------------------------------------
-Chivu/Maxwell-Samuel-Cordoba/Burdisso-JZ---
--------------Julio Cesar---------------------

I'd hate to see Stankovic play on the flank but most probably that where Mancio will put him unless he plays him instead of Dacourt and puts Figo on the right. But I believe that Deki could click well with Capitano also in central defense I expect Mancini to start Cordoba like he usually does but I'd rather see Burdisso since lately Cordoba has been rather shaky. Should be a great and unpredictable game like all games against Roma this will be a very entertaining match. And imho it is the new derby d'Italia since these past 3 years Inter and Roma have been competing over all the Coppa Italias and last season for the Scudetto.
