I love Rafinha as a player; but any money put on him is a waste. One ACL rupture is enough to ruin a player, he got TWO on both legskay:

You are arguing that 2 ruptures are enough to ruin a player and yet you would take him as an impact sub? Flawed argumantation.
Personally, I would risk it. If he's going to be back to his shape, he could easily get a valuation of like 40m (so the money we were supposed to pay for him). From a mathematical perspective, ignoring the wages, it seems to be a profitable bet if we assume he will perform like a fourth of the time or more...

10 years of FIFI expect a "Giuseppe Rossi" from Rafinha, no more, no less. After his 2nd ACL injury, Levante acquired Rossi for free from Fiorentina and he instantly showed his talent (6 goals/2 assists). But his spell didn't last long. His ligament & muscles were a lot weaker and easily damaged, before his ACL was torn the 3rd time and retired since then.
Your "if" most likely never happens, sadly. Can you show me one player, whom came back from two ACL rupture and had a decent career (let alone 40m transfer fee)?

Of course, Milik. Two ruptures, in two seasons before the one that just ended, last season 17 goals in Serie A. Coincidentally, according to transfermarkt, valuation is at exactly 40m.

I don't think anyone thinks of getting him and not getting any other reinforcements; more of addition that may turn out to be a starter / important part of a team that doesn't put much pressure on our budget and also happens to be a fans favorite.

Would be nice but considering that Barca bought De Jong, will sign either Ney or Griezz, Rodrigo and some smaller names like Emerson (the Betis one) and considering that their problems with their wage cap are well-known (will probably sign Felipe Luis as well!), I think they will really want to get rid of players they most likely won't use. I am almost certain that he will go this season, most likely for less than 15 mil.
BTW. MD reported that Valencia thinks 15 mil is too much.
