I want him back in January.

Having watched more than half of Cagliari's matches this season, he doesn't look like a player that's anywhere close to being finished. Not only does he score the occasional wondergoal - and they are a nice bonus - but more importantly, he runs his ass off, helps the defence with his tracking back, tidies up nicely, goes into every physical duel like it's his last, and his long passing is smooth as ever.
Just like we knew he was capable, and just like he did did prove at times (albeit not enough) for us. He looks renewed and seems like he wants to prove that he isn't finished.

I know there has been a lot of focus put on on the merits of a united locker room, but it never seemed to me, like Nainggolan was playing any particular part in dividing said locker room. Yes, the clubbing and smoking part wasn't exceptionally well-timed, but really nothing that had any effect on his level of play. Who knows? - let's hope this situation with his wife - as horrible as it is - has given him renewed focus and strength.

He has publicly stated that he doesn't hold any grudges towards Inter, that he would've liked to work under Conte, and that he still wants to prove that he belongs here. Likewise, Conte has stated that it wasn't his decision to send him away, and (correct me if I'm wrong) would've also liked to work with Radja.
It's simply a no-brainer, and I hope Marotta isn't too proud to see that, just maybe sending out one of our better midfielders for little gain wasn't exactly the smartest thing in the world.
With our injury crisis and depth problems, if there's any way to work out a deal with Cagliari (retroactively pay more of his wage to get them off their books, maybe loan out a DiMarco or something) to get him back in the transfer window, it's a no-brainer. He has a contract with us until 2022, and it makes more sense for us to have him be available - even as a squad player - than it does for us to see him run around on Sardinia, being their best or second-best player.

I'm not saying he should come back here to take the starting spot of Barella or Sensi, but we need all the depth we can get, and we have (whether we qualify for CHL or EL) all the matches we can handle and plenty of minutes to go around. Also, we could finally have the depth needed to get rid of deadwood like one of Vecino or Gagliardini for that sweet, sweet FFP-money + we get a better player in their spot without saving transfer fees and wages for a dud like Matic or a Kulusevski who doesn't seem like a midfielder and could just be someone having his fifteen minutes of fame. At worst, he'd be replacing Borja who looks certain to leave come winter.

And we already own him.

He's said over and over that he's not going to change his lifestyle, the drinking, clubbing, smoking is part of who he is and will continue. So how will it look to other players who conduct themselves like professionals when 9G strolls in thirty minutes late to training with hangover shades on? You can do that shit at a small club Cagliari without ambition where you're the best player, but he hasn't earned that right at Inter. I guess that's the reasoning management has. Personally I agree with it.

Our management's (ie Marotta) problem with Radja was mostly that he caused friction in the locker room (vs Icardi) and that he didn't shy away from the spotlight when it came to having a nightlife (ie more drinks than he could take). It's not against internal policy for players to go out at night, but Radja was punished for showboating his lifestyle.
He got punished when he was late for training, he got punished and missed a game as well. Our policy did not turn soft after repeated violations, they just didn't occur anymore.

Nobody cared that he smoked or drank. Only FIF prudes seem to exaggerate on this issue.
If the club maintained a position that the guy was unfit to be a professional and was getting hammered every night which deteriorated his physical condition, he'd be frozen out. He wasn't. The decision was based on character alone. It was feared that he'd be a locker room leader that would potentially rebel against the coach. Which is also one of the reasons why Icardi was also sent packing, since he already had rebelled against a coach.

Some say that also Miranda did the same which made him instantly expendable.

Exactly! Marrotta understand it is about team not inviduals! Im not sure about that Miranda thing tho... I though he was sold to make room for Godin and free up some wages?

Miranda was released, not sold. We took a capital hit.

It wasn't really mentioned much, but Miranda was also part of the 'locker room trouble". Not much information has been spread about it anyway, maybe in a few years where all the relevant parties don't have anything to do with Inter anymore speak up (Icardi, Perisic, Nainggol and apparently Miranda).

the smoking, drinking, partying lifestyle was brought up by 9G when he said he wouldn't give any of that up, the implication being that was the reason management had decided to send him on loan. And it's not an exaggerated issue, its down to genetics but generally speaking, that sort of lifestyle does you no favors as a professional athlete. To say no one cared when clubs are spending millions on diet plans, recipes, nutritionists, workout regiments, trainers, chefs, etc all in an effort to keep their players/investments in top condition just doesn't make any sense.

The decision was based on character alone. It was feared that he'd be a locker room leader that would potentially rebel against the coach.
Evidence of this? Maybe a bad influence on some of the players, but locker room leader? Nah... 9G has won fuck all in his long career and we have bigger stars than him, he's not leading anything anywhere

He's 35 and error prone.

i am happy that he's playing this good. At least we will be able to sell him. Same with Icardi and Gabigol. I am not sure about Perisic and Mario tho.

If he comes back for a role as a substitute/depth i have the biggest doubt he would be able to put half the performance he would give for Cagliari. He is a god in Sardegna, captain and plays 90 minutes. Loved by all.
He will come back and do the same thing he does at Cagliari. Won't be captain, won't be playing 90 minutes every game and will be looked as a problem by the club and fans.
He is doing what he wants, he is happy and his performances translate on the field. At Inter, there will be none of that, he will be miserable, watch everything he does and says and he won't play as much, so his performances will not nearly mirror his current form.

He's killing it at Cagliari and they're fighting for a CL spot. No chance is he coming back. If he does for some odd reason, its gonna be the same thing as last season.

Great, I'll choose to believe this solely to relieve my saltiness at the situation.

Thank you new poster

11 games, 4 goals, 5 assists and currently fourth in the table with Cagliari. He can smoke and drink all he likes if he keeps playing like this still.

Should have kept him. Now after the injuries we only got Brozovic, Valero and Vecino, and that's literally it. Also the one person he beefed with (Icardi) left to PSG, there wouldn't have been any friction.

Are we even allowed to call him back?

Any Serie A aficionados know the rules around loan recalls?

I think it depends on the deal itself, if the owning club has the right to recall.

Won't happen tho. We need him, but won't happen. Even if we call him i doubt he would come back.

If the 2 clubs can find an arrangement they can recall him from loan. But as has been said, it won't happen.

Nainggolan was sent away to make a point about discipline. His exclusion from the team has less to do with football - it's a matter of principle.

Whether people agree with the management or not is frankly irrelevant at this stage. And it's a topic that has been discussed to fucking death so let's please not go there again.

Marotta calling him back in January will show the world that he did a mistake, and he doesn’t want that to happen. He would sign Vidal for 30m rather than taking back a fit, performing Nainggolan, so he doesn’t lose his pride.

Nainggolan on the other hand too, would laugh at us calling him back.

To put it politely, these are two paragraphs of pure horseshit

The only time nainggolan really got "trashed" by us (and rightfully so) was when that audio was leaked of him confessing that he wanted to go back to Roma.

The fool who wrote that article also wrongly claims that Maran came up with the idea of playing 9golan up front, whereas in fact he was deployed there by Spalletti already back in 16/17 in his final Roma season.

Attitude or not, I think that letting Nainggolan go now is a mistake. He's still more useful when drunk than our bench midfielders.

When did a big club regret loaning an aging immobile player? Nainngolan is still mostly useless but he had to change after Marotta and Conte told him he is no longer needed. But if he is still here he would probably be not even fit for Conte’s training sessions.

Why do you always disagree with the majority?
