Dat config :notbad:
I have used DELL and Acer, so can't really help you. I've heard mixed reaction from ASUS users, so it's not really going to be helpful. A cousin of mine got ASUS few years ago, got broken in a month. A guy from my neighborhood tho, brought it to me to fix it (software wise), he had it for 4 years, it looked like new. And he used it for gaming and was always having it with him. Didn't even warm up.
I'd say get it, you can't make mistake with that config
Cant you go to some IT story or somehting, and try to find similar HP and ASUS (for the displays) and see it for yourself?
Well i didn't mean EXACTLY those configs, only the type of laptops, with that type of screen and all... Just to compare.
CPU : Actually 4700HQ's performance is almost the same as 4700MQ (on paper). In fact, 4700HQ isn't effective as 4700MQ when you open TurboBoost. However 4700HQ supports VT-d (only useful for virtual machine). If you aim for gaming, 4700MQ > 4700HQ (not much). If you work with virtual machine, choose 4700HQ.Anyone got experience with ASUS laptops ?
Reason I'm asking is because I've got an option that someone buys me the laptop in US in January so I get to avoid all the taxes and actually get it for the price paid overthere instead of 40% more in Bosnia.
I am about to make the decision in the next 2-3 days and I'm stuck between HP Envy 15t-j100 touchsmart and ASUS N550JV
Here are the specs (HP left, ASUS right)
i7 4700 MQ === i7 4700HQ
nVidia GT740M 2gb === nVidia GT750M 2gb
Full HD touchscreen glossy for both (although reviews claim ASUS's is better)
Aluminum& plastic build === fully aluminum build
1 TB HDD with SSD cache === 1 TB HDD
16 GB RAM === 16GB RAM (might optionally choose 1x8GB, have to figure out if 16 is an overkill)
I have a great experience with HP (have a ProBook 4700s for almost 5 years now, and other stuff also) while I have never had ASUS laptop.
Reason why I'm inclined now to ASUS is the aluminum build, HPs screen lid is made from a thin plastic and that makes me worried because I would be poking it a lot with my fingers as it is a touchscreen.
Also many reviews claim ASUS is significantly better when it comes to high-performance stuff (gaming etc)
Any recommendations, advices, ideas ? ? ?

GPU : GT750 (well, if only ASUS use GDDR5 version it could be better, but GDDR3 is good enough for me) is much better than GT740M (especially HP use weaker version of GT740M with 64-bit memory interface instead of 128-bit by default)
Display : ASUS uses IPS panel from LG, has much better view angle and color than HP Envy (cheap TN panel ). ASUS is better unless you want touch display.
Speaker : ASUS N series has one of the best speaker systems in laptop.
Storage : HDD with SSD cache is slightly better, but with 24GB you can only see faster boot speed, not enough for regular applications. So I think SSD cache is not important. HP Envy has mSATA port, ASUS N series doesn't (you can add another SSD and use it like a cache, with ASUS you'll have to find standard 2.5" drive)
Connect: HP Envy has 1 more USB 3.0 port, meanwhile ASUS N550jv doesn't even have VGA port (which is stupid since my university's still using old projector )
Temp : ASUS N550jv is cooler than HP Envy.
Design : Fully aluminum build > Aluminum& plastic build.
Battery : ASUS sucks, and you can't replace your battery HP is better.
I'll choose ASUS N550jv. HP Envy was great in the past, but now HP managed to turn it to another cheap series.
Best multimedia laptop now is Dell Studio XPS (newest version, last version is just ) : CPU Intel 4702HQ (better than both 4700MQ/HQ), GPU nVidia GT750 (GDDR5 version, better than ASUS with GDDR3), better display (panel from Sharp with highest resolution on laptop atm, however Windows 8/8.1 still doesn't support high resolution (>1080p) very well), better battery ; and Apple MacBook Pro Retina. But both are overpriced as fuck.

yeah, I can't understand why ASUS still try to include optical drive in their laptops it's unnecesary and make the laptop heavier. We can easily find faster external optical drive when we need.
If you want to add extra HDD/SSD, you could try this one : http://hddcaddy.com/en/asus-hdd-caddy/415-asus-n550-n550jv-hdd-caddy.html
oh, and sorry for my mistake about touchscreen. I thought you talked about ASUS N550jv without touchscreen. But I'm sure they still use IPS panel for the touchscreen version, so it's display is much better than HP Envy.
And you can configure your ASUS laptop if you buy it on Computer Upgrade King (not sure if they have best price or not).
