Even if it’s an ACL as long as it’s the opposite knee he’ll be fine in time. Ligaments tear once and rehabilitate stronger to prevent another tear. Two tears on one knee however basically end a career. The mental strain it takes to recover from two major injuries will be scary.

ACLs generally don't heal themselves. If a tear is serious, a reconstruction is required, i.e. complete replacement of the ACL. It's the replaced ACL that is stronger.

Other than destroying the knees, ACL injuries also cause muscle atrophy and put extra stresses on the other leg's joints, muscles among other things. Which increases the the chance of further injuries quite substantially.

ACLs also don't just tear themselves only, many times they also destroy the meniscus. And that means a permanent loss of stability in the knee.

It should be in Italy's Constitution that Roma must not own any of their promising youngsters

Fuck me, confirmed, ACL injury. Poor lad. Expected back in February but honestly should take the full season out and try to strengthen his legs like fuck. He's already been seriously hampered and one more is career over. Such a shame.

ACL Roma. Terrible news. Has any athlete (not just football player) returned at a top level after two ACL injuries? Sadly my mind only goes to players like Rafinha and Guiseppe Rossi.

I still don't know exactly what happened? It seems like nothing serious, just a little tap on the foot by VDB. Terrible news for him and Italy, came back very good but I don't think you can recover from this kind of injury for a second time, especially if the time between these injuries is not even a year.

I think Milik and Florenzi torn ACL twice. They are not top players, but still play on good level.

tbh, im less worried about the two injuries (different knees), but more worried about loss of developmental time and injury proneness. How many people tear two ACLs in a year? Or how many players have done it twice by the time they are 21?

Needs to be some sort of investigation at Roma. It's not just being unlucky anymore. That's just dangerous.

Perotti went a few months back to publicly complain to the media how the terrible pitches of Serie A are to blame for Roma's injuries

Roma forward Nicolò Zaniolo will operate tomorrow, as the tests at Villa Stuart revealed a second ACL injury in only eight months, this time in the left knee.

The Giallorossi confirmed the attacking midfielder, who ruptured his ACL in the right knee during a match against Juventus in January, requires another operation, but this time on his left knee.

The Roma midfielder went off just before half-time in Italy’s 1-0 win against Holland in the UEFA Nations League.

“Nicolò Zaniolo will undergo surgery on Wednesday after MRI scans today confirmed the player has suffered a complete tear to the anterior cruciate ligament,” the club wrote in a statement.

“For the many people who are asking me how I am, this morning I carried out the tests that highlighted the rupture of the cruciate ligament in my left knee,” Zaniolo wrote on Instagram.

“I thank everyone, both Roma fans and others for the support… I’ll be back soon!” - Nicolò Zaniolo

Forget physically recuperating from a second ACL injury, it is even tougher to mentally recover from such a blow. He'll be playing at 80% confidence for the rest of his career.

Read on reddit that this is the 20th ACL tear for a Roma player since 2014. Hard to believe this is just bad luck. They are doing something wrong there.

I always feel like something like this is myth but 24 on 6 years is outrageous. Have we even had one in that time? I'm sure we must have but the most recent inter one I can think of off hand is Samuel maybe?

Edit oh viviano apparently did in 2011

Don't have one.
Most likely their medical staff is complete trash, including medical facilities, although on a long shot it could be a thing about their training ground and the way its built. Composition, grass, ground itself etc... that makes extra pressure on players knees.
