we will be playing the semis against juventus or, if we are lucky, against lazio. and we had to win at san paolo to get there. milan only had to win at home against carpi and will be playing against a serie C side. life is unfair.

Well, sometimes the word "racism" is used as a synonym for "discrimination" (maybe because it is the most common form of discrimination), so I think it is OK to define "racist" what sarri said, since he discriminated against gay people.

There is a word for that, homophobic, not racist it has nothing to do with race.

It's not a huge deal but there is a difference.

To me, the top of the game was Handas save on Higuain at the end. I can't stand that cunt.

Respect to Mancini for not taking any shit from Sarri, but I'm with Sarri on this one. He apologized for irritable comments said in the heat of the moment and I do think Mancini overreacted somewhat - not by arguing mano e mano on the pitch/sidelines, I'm all for that kind of thing, but by his comments said to the press.

No sorry certain comments are unacceptable no matter heat of the moment or not. Racist and homophobic comments have no place.

It's a tough one this argument. On the one hand, it's always good to keep things on the pitch especially after an apology because god knows we've all done things and said things on the pitch that we'll probably always regret. But on the other hand, there needs to be an uncrossable line somewhere, especially in Italy where this spirit of "shake hands and pretend nothing happened" is probably the reason why the league is suffering from chronic racism and corruption. It also is the reason why it's still a real league with real drama and football and emotion, not the cleaned up sterile EPL. Part of the reason why I personally love the Serie A so much is the fact that you have batshit crazy presidents like Ferrero, Zamparini and ADL.

Having said that, I have to stand with Mancio on this one... homophobia and racism (I recognize that no racist slurs were said) really have no place in the modern world, and if the Serie A wants to remain relevant, then a genuine stand needs to be taken and not just glossed over. If Sarri had called Mancini a goat fucker or a son of a whore or the equivalent of cunt or any other "regular" insult, I'd probably side with Sarri, but I really do think homophobia and racism need to disappear.

languages are complex. the meanings of the words change over time and quite often against logic. the word "homophobic" would have been more coherent but i really don't think that "racist" can be overall considered wrong.

Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri’s alleged homophobic comments to Inter’s Roberto Mancini could result in a two-month ban, say reports.

Mancini was furious with the Partenopei boss after his side’s 2-0 Coppa Italia win on Tuesday, calling him “a racist and a homophobe who should be drummed out of football.”

Sarri responded after the match by saying he “couldn’t remember” what he said and that “these things happen”.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports today that Mancini spoke with federal prosecutors after the game and an inquiry is likely to be opened to shed light on what happened.

The newspaper writes that the Napoli Coach risks a two-month ban for the racist content of his remarks.

Sarri: 'Mancini insulted me too' | Football Italia

Maurizio Sarri tried to laugh off the accusations of homophobia from Roberto Mancini in a Press conference. “He insulted me too.”

The two Coaches clashed on the touchline during the final minutes of Inter’s 2-0 Coppa Italia victory away to Napoli.

Mancini went on Rai Sport and accused Sarri of shouting homophobic slurs at him. He also said Sarri was “racist,” though did not mention any racist terms, so could well have meant homophobic.

“These things happen on the pitch. I was taught when the referee blows the final whistle you shake hands and it all ends there,” said the Napoli Coach in a Press conference.

“Under stress things can happen, but I apologised in the locker room and it should’ve ended there, like it so often does in this game.

“Now people are calling me homophobic and other ugly things. It was the first word that popped into my mind. Next time I’ll call him a Democristiano (defunct Italian political party, ndr). I have gay friends, so it’s not as if I’m homophobic…

“Do I expect a ban? Why should I be banned? It’s an insult, like many others. Mancini called me an old git, so is he racist towards old people?

“I apologised to him, but the truth is I can’t even remember the term I used.”

Sarri is from Tuscany and those from that region are famous for swearing a lot in their everyday speech. Until now this rough and ready approach to interviews has been considered charming, but this incident could have huge repercussions.

As for the match itself, Sarri explained the lack of intensity.

“It was my fault, I was trying to balance out the minutes played and get them at the end, but in these cases a little incident can wreck the whole plan.

“We did care about this game and the Dries Mertens red card made me really angry. You can give a penalty or not, but a second yellow for diving is excessive.

“The team remained balanced and the game was under control until the goal.”

Despite apologizing for his homophobic slurs against Roberto Mancini questions have been raised as to how serious that apology was. Because last night was not the first time where Sarri expressed homophobic views. After Varese-Empoli on 25 March, 2014, the coach said: Football has become a sport for f*gs. We suffered twice as many fouls and got more yellow cards than them.

really good display, solid again in defence and i think a rest will do muerillo good. kondogbia looked good and jovetic and llajic playing together makes a real difference to forward line

perisic however was poor, i am a big fan of letting manager choose his signings but i really hope perisic starts utilising his pace soon or whats point of having him?

both our goals came when jorginho, hamsik and higuain on pitch so thats an extra boost

poor lil run in league but this inter is a good team, lets hope we continue to see improvement

if lazio beat juve we will be favourites for the coppa too, would be nice to have some silverware again

I wonder how our players feel, about coming out of an impressive win against an in form side that's sitting on top of table, whom we've lost against to seeing our coach rampage at the end and steal the headlines next morning..

Samir Handanovic was awarded man of the match for the 2-0 win for Inter at the San Paolo. Gazzetta dello Sport recognises the Slovenian goalkeeper for his fine saves on Mertens and Higuain: he gets 7.5.

7 is for Jovetic and Ljajic, the scorers of two goals with which the Nerazzurri have annihilated Napoli. Well even Miranda, Juan Jesus and Medel have 6.5. Sufficient marks for Perisic, Palacio, Biabiany, Telles and Nagaotmo. They only rejected Kondogbia giving him a 5. Mancini ok: 6.5 to the Inter coach.

Kondogbia hold the ball to much time, he is young and Iam sure he will repair his bug ;)
