I’ve really got into Naroditski videos on YouTube. Best chess tutor I’ve encountered. His speed-run series is worth looking into.

Hey Dave thanks for sharing and sorry to hear about your MRI. Chess will help and it's also a beautiful game.
I'm around 1840+ and will even go as low as 1500 if I don't keep playing or do puzzles for a while.
Would recommend you also check out the puzzles because they will help your in a passive way where you're not pressured for time.
Also Gotham is okay and the biggest channel on youtube but I would suggest https://www.youtube.com/@ChessNetwork if you really want to learn. Agadmator is also great (he's got playlist or sagas for a bunch of players from the past that you might like)
Wish you all the best

I use Chess Network to fall asleep. Agadmator actually got me back into chess after a 15year hiatus.

Ah. Chess. Used to play with my friends. Took ages to make moves and everybody was like - come on dude, just play. Now I play blitz (I literally make the first move I deem somewhat adequate) and inevitably lose - they now think I half ass it...

Dave, I'd propose you look into playing video games. When it comes to games maybe StarCraft 2 is the closest thing to modern-day chess. It's very demanding, if you're into that type of stuff, both mechanically and strategically. Lost of things going on in real time. Pro players usually have 300-400+ APM (Actions per minute, that's clicks and keystrokes). Same as chess - the sky is the ceiling, but unlike chess it has added visual stimulus.

Pretty aggressive style, not that I'm that knowledgeable about chess but you seemed more than happy to trade pieces. All is good when it ends good, I suppose :)

@Dave54 much better this way, thanks.

I could take it a few notches faster, but my internal processing system is a bit abnormal so others wouldn't enjoy it

Fischer-Taimanov, 1-0. 1971. Sicilian Defense.
It helps to follow their moves. What I would play, what did they play. Great ending for Fischer. he exchanged his bishop for 2 pawns at the end.

Do you know Agamator? His YouTube channel has some great breakdowns of historical matches.

I never understood how chess is played. My grandpa who is not in this world anymore used to teach me back when i was a little child how the figures move, the positioning but thats everything that i have memorized.
Im terrible with strategies and i got no clue what to do when playing against someone.
