the stakes on the marvel movies can never be the same as the ones in DC.

Supes was fighting Zod and his crew, while the avengers in the first movie were fighting aliens that even Black Widow with Hawkeye could take em down in one-on-one hand combat and in the second one robots that were so easy to fuck up that again Black Widow and Hawkeye could fuck em up..

To equate what is at stake with fighting skills and physical strength alone is to take away almost everything that's significant about the story. Did you at any point doubt Superman was going to win against Zod? Of course not. If there is one thing that bores people about Superman it's his sheer and almost absolute physical supremacy and bravery. He is always going to win.

The challenge the Avengers faced was one about becoming a team, to find one small common ground to do one huge thing. The scene between the Hulk and Thor, when the Hulk punched Thor in the middle of the fight against aliens, was as funny as it was telling. In the first part of the movie they fought almost exclusively among themselves.

I see what you are saying, but did you ever thought that the avengers will lose to practically human strength aliens?

Those aliens even the US military could have beaten, without a single avenger.

Avengers was a perfect movie imo, i just said that DC enemies are way more powerful, at least so far in the movies, not talking comic books.

So I watched the final Hunger Games, and man I thought it sucked big time. It seems only the first one in the series was OK, the rest was a bore.

Also just watched 99 Homes and thought it was pretty good. Garfield's acting was amazing, it's a shame the ending wasn't very good imo.

Knowing Whedon's work (kind of), I was uncertain what to expect. He doesn't shy away from portraying loss, defeat and killing relevant characters, but yeah, there was little chance they were going to lose. Thanos has yet to appear in his full strength, so that should change things, if they are serious enough.

Marvel needs a bit more existentialism in it's script writing. I just hope Disney isn't affecting Marvel's decision to include more deaths. So far, the biggest character loss has only been Thor's momma.

And I agree 100% Kazaan. I think they've always had Thanos planned to be the "when-the-chips-are-down" villain.
Loki and the Chitauri only served to be an obstacle tough enough to have the team come together and prove their worth. Thor alone probably could have stopped them

To put things into perspective, Ultron would have definitely wiped out humanity.
The next step is Thanos, who is capable of destruction on a galactic/universal scale.

---Edit---

I find it absolutely ridiculous that they've got Black Widow and Hawkeye running around with them.

LOL I never watched but I've seen commercials. I always assumed it was a prequel to Avengers or something.

Were you all raised up on comic books and graphic novels? Not saying anything, just, maybe change this thread title (?)

Putting spidey in the trailer is similar to dc putting lex luthor in the trailer for bats vs sups

Fuck them both, it is just a marketing ploy to make people talk about the movies.

Do you really care so much? We're discussing the movies, and this is the movie thread.

Also Lucas is working on another Indiana Jones movie. I really wish he wouldn't as the original trilogy is one of my all time favourites.

No, just curious really. I had an elective class back in uni on the graphic novel actually, kind of fascinated with the whole superhero movie fanbase.
