Kaka relives World Cup tension Monday 4 April, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan ace Kaka has likened Wednesday’s Champions’ League derby with Inter to the World Cup Final.
"The tension is similar to what I experienced ahead of the 2002 World Cup Final," said the Brazilian.
"But back then I knew that I wouldn’t be playing. That isn’t going to be the case in midweek.
"This is one of the most important build-ups to a game that I have ever experienced. I expect it to be a real tough encounter too."
The Rossoneri go into the game as slight favourites but the attacking midfielder is taking nothing for granted.
"There are no favourites for us, that is something that the media and the fans will have to decide on," he added.
"I’m just delighted to be a part of what promises to be a very special game. Playing well in the derby earns you a place in history and I’m hoping to do that on Wednesday night."
Although both teams share the San Siro, many believe Milan will have to be at their best on Wednesday as they are technically the home side.
"But we shouldn’t try and win it in the first game," warned Kaka. "We need to remember that there will be another 90 minutes to follow. We must play with intelligence."
Kaka still hadn’t signed for the Scudetto holders when the teams last met in this competition at the semi-final stage.
"I wasn’t here two years ago but I have this opportunity now and I hope to take advantage of it," added the player, who scored the winner in the last League meeting between the rivals.
"However, I think it will be tougher to beat Inter now than it was in 2003. A lot has changed since then."
