Well, do you see Bardi at Inter in the next 2 years, with Handanovic here?

If we're not looking at bringing him like Courtois then we should just sell him and raise the money. Also, he doesn't seem to have delivered to the level people expected, last season and this season have been a bit more disappointing than expected, and Perin has probably rightfully climbed the rankings above him after being behind for U-21s etc.

Myself.
As a complete change in topic:

I would be considering selling some of our younger players. Longo should definitely be sold, maybe Duncan, Bianchetti, Biraghi, for the right money I'd even sell Bardi. And I have to say given his pissy attitude, I'd consider any reasonable offer for MBaye too.

We've got how much money tied up in them? 8 for Bardi, 6 for Duncan, 2.5 for Bianchetti, 4 for Longo maybe? Probably 20m worth in younger players we could sell for money, and I dont think any of them will necessarily make a big impact at Inter.

Sell them? Sell them and when they become superstars or successful in another club in the future then you will be one of the people regretting and complaining why inter sold them. We still haven't learn.

If someone wants Handanovic and Bardi is ready, then he can play from start.

Im sure he is not bad. I would keep him at Inter to play Coppa Italia and some EL games. Its still better then Chievo or Bologna(they want him on loan, i read) and warm the bench.

Duncan cant get into the Sampdoria team, Longo has basically not played football for 2 seasons. Bianchetti is a highly rated prospect who has played 6 minutes of Serie A football this year. Biraghi's so hot and cold he might as well be on the surface of the moon.

I dont think any of those - except Bardi - have a chance of being an Inter first teamer, and we still have a lot of value tied up in them that we could release to improve the team with.

I'm completely in favour of our youth, I'm just not keen on hanging on to them longer than necessary. If they arent playing regularly at like 22 in a Serie A side, then one should really be considering if we want to keep them or not.

We want people who will be competing for our first team without dropping the level of it. If you dont show signs of being 'quite' competitive at a mid-table side, then why would we want them to improve us? Okay, fine, the obvious joke is that we're also a mid-table side, but we want to get to a top 3 position, and people who cant play regularly for another mid-table side aren't going to do that.

Out of curiosity Browha, how highly do you rate Simone Scuffet compared to the two you mentioned above? Most people tell me he's going to be the new Buffon, so why not get him (do a cash + Bardi deal), sell Handa for a high fee, and have the GK position set for the next 10+ years?

I dont want to comment on Scuffet as I've only seen him play like twice.

By all accounts he seems to be highly rated, and obviously by reputation he really took his chance, but at the same time, he's been dropped again by Udinese this season. If he had continued his spell as the first choice keeper, it might be more interesting.

I'd be interested in Scuffet mainly from an age perspective - Bardi is getting older and will soon deserve to be at his parent club (whoever that is) playing as first choice. That will be within the next two seasons I think, and Handanovic will still probably be at Inter in that time scale.

Scuffet can afford to have two or even four years to develop before we need him at Inter.

I agree with browha.. We need money badly and wouldn't mind seeing some of your youngsters go. Obviously the money from their sell has to be properly invested not on likes of Diarra and Podolski!

Oh how pathetic we've become as a club. I don't think it's possible to get any lower than this. The youth project is dead. And this Podolski signing is confirmation that we don't have any sort of strategic plan for getting back into the UCL besides keep signing shit and praying we get lucky..

There's no more denying it. There's used to be a time when we made signings that actually made us better, but now we're simply collecting whatever and whoever is willing to come to us for cheap regardless of age or quality, We're a midtable club, trying so hard to remain in a big pond but using duct tape to fix our leaks.

Who else was there for less than 600k? We were clearly looking for someone to play out wide. Enjoy writing him off as 'Podolshit' already though.

You're so fixated on the cost that you're missing out on the bigger picture. If Guarin had come for free would it make him a good signing? Vidic came for free was he a good signing? Dodo? Schelotto? And so on?

Ever noticed that we only receive competition from other clubs for some signings yet we can take weeks or even months for others yet other clubs couldn't be arsed? Ever noticed how for years now we've been signing the same type of players over and over and have to sign more of those every transfer window. We operate without direction, without ambition and its reflected on the pitch and table. Take whatever we can get, rather than players who meet a certain standard.. I mean all the big clubs do it too right? Oh wait, they actually don't.. Genoa does though! Good to see we're trying to be like them..

Name our best players on the team right now, how many of them came here under these circumstances? Now look at our flops or simply the ones that are hated the most.. How many of them came under these circumstances? Podolski doing well here would not make him a good signing it would just mean that we got lucky.

I was only focusing on the costs as that's a common complaint of yours, if you want to put costs aside for a second then we've acquire him for next to nothing. A player who, yes was eating bench this year but that doesn't necessarily mean they automatically will be crap for us. Half our 2010 treble XI were rejects. Arsenal are a better team than us, if Podolski can't get into a team with Ozil, Sanchez and Giroud then it's going to be easier for him here when his rivals are an out of form Palacio and a 17 year old Bonazzolli. Guarin and Vidic don't enter into it, they're different players. You can't judge his ability to settle in by saying Guarin is crap and Vidic fucked up every match. The fact you have written off Dodo as Schelotto standard is also ridiculous.

Nobody was competing with us for Handanovic were they? Or D'Ambrosio? Kovacic I can't remember but if other teams were why would he choose Inter. We haven't gone out and signed Klose here, we signed Podolski, a player who plays in the position that Mancini currently needs and currently has none of. The plan seems to add another player in this area. If he does well, fantastic, if not then there's no harm done. You can't expect us to go unearth another Kovacic for every position we need.

''Podolski doing well here would not make him a good signing...''

Yes, it would.

Really? You mean when I constantly mock people who repeat the we're broke sentiment? I only mentioned cost for Podolski just to show the true cost of getting this "cheap" signing, other than that it's bullshit, and I tend to stay away from the financial details of deals (figures) focusing more on the effects.

Have you even bothered to read my post? It's not a matter of whether or not he'll be crap for us, it's the precedent we've set and are continuing. We've done these deals over and over and it has failed, doing it again and it working doesn't make it all of a sudden a good strategy. It's a terrible way to run a club, especially in the long term.

Half our 2010 treble XI were rejects.
Mind telling me which half? The closest to it may perhaps be Lucio, who could be termed a hasbeen, similar to what Vidic is, as opposed to has been. P.S. Sneijder wasn't one either, the same way Robben, Di Maria and Ozil aren't, the same way Sanchez and Cesc weren't for Barca.

Arsenal are a better team than us, if Podolski can't get into a team with Ozil, Sanchez and Giroud then it's going to be easier for him here when his rivals are an out of form Palacio and a 17 year old Bonazzolli.
Podolski is going to walk into this team, and that's a bad thing. Don't you see. We've fallen so far as a club, that after committing to spend almost 40 million euros in the summer, a bench player from the EPL can simply come in and walk into our team, and that's all to do with the transfer policies that we've been adhering to. These same transfer policies are the ones we're using to get said EPL player. All it does is continue the cycle, we're making signings only for the short term, yet paying for them in the long term. Even if we had money these signings would be stupid.

Guarin and Vidic don't enter into it, they're different players. You can't judge his ability to settle in by saying Guarin is crap and Vidic fucked up every match.

Dodo is a year younger than Schelotto was for us.

Who is also a signing that contradicts Erick Thorir's very own Youth Policy, is injury prone and by your own admition he is not enough.. Say by some miracle we sign Shakiri, what becomes of Podolski now?

If he does well, fantastic, if not then there's no harm done. You can't expect us to go unearth another Kovacic for every position we need.
If making it into the Champions League consistently is our goal, then yes, that's basically what we have to do. If battling with the likes of Udinese, Sampdoria, Genoa and Palermo is our forte then these type of deals which we're doing now will suffice.

''Podolski doing well here would not make him a good signing...''

Yes, it would.
No it wouldn't. Walking into the deep end of a pool and not drowning does not mean it's not a stupid thing to do. It just means you got lucky.

Whether or not he'll be crap for us is the point. We've started the season with the intention of signing nobody like him, now we're stuck due to, as you said, a lack of proper planning. So option what option did we have? Tell Mancini to suck it up and use the players signed in the summer as wingers?

Mind telling me which half? The closest to it may perhaps be Lucio, who could be termed a hasbeen, similar to what Vidic is, as opposed to has been. P.S. Sneijder wasn't one either, the same way Robben, Di Maria and Ozil aren't, the same way Sanchez and Cesc weren't for Barca.

Lucio was a reject. Avoiding the term reject and using it like with Podolski, he's not a reject but he's nowhere near the first team. Much like Sneijder was. Add to that Samuel who wasn't starting for Madrid, Pandev who was frozen out of Lazio, Eto'o who was forced out by Guardiola and deemed worth to be the value of Ibra + 20 million. Cambiasso on a free transfer when not wanted by Madrid. All of Lucio, Samuel, Cambiasso, Sneijder, Pandev and Eto'o didn't exactly take much persuading to be let go from there clubs. How is that not a similar case here with Podolski?

Podolski would walk into quite a lot of Serie A teams these days, this deal just seems like another way to grasp at a chance of getting into Europe somehow where will will then go and drop more money in the summer for players fitting Mancini. That is assuming of course we don't pull the trigger on Mancini by then.

History has a way of repeating itself.
Guess we should just write everyone off over the age of 28 then?

Cheap backup? An option for the other wing. Going through the season with Podolski, Shaqiri, Palacio and Bonazzolli is acceptable.

wasted*

We could have gotten him for free and I'd still be talking about it. He's a left back who can't defend. The only thing preventing that deal from being a total disaster is that he is young.. The reason I keep bringing that up is to show that we're not broke, since we have no problem paying excessive amounts with a credit card. My entire point in bringing that up is to show that we're spending, just doing so badly, choosing the wrong personnel over and over again. Better, smarter spending -> better Inter.

Again missing my point.. just because we fucked up in the summer, does that mean we should just sign whoever is available, regardless of the player making the team better or not?

Lucio was a reject.
Really? 32 league games out of 34 and 8 UCL appearances makes = reject? Try bonafide starter. He was the heart of Bayern's defense.

Dude what the actual fuck are you even talking about? Sneijder was very much part of Madrid's first team, only injuries stopped him from playing more. Eto'o was a bonafide starter for one of the most winningest teams of all time. Pandev fell out with the Lazio management, Cambiasso never fit in the Galacticos, same with Makele (is he a reject too?), Samuel was a bonafide starter in Madrid in his lone season there..

How are any of these players rejects? Are you fucked? A player getting sold does not make him a reject, especially if that player was a key player.. Being in a club for years, being used sparingly like 10 minutes every 4 games, in the prime of your career, even whilst the players all around you are getting hurt, that makes you a reject.... None of these players were even in a remotely similar situation to Podolski and if you truly believe that there are any comparisons in these situations please tell me now, because this conversation has to end because I fear for your sanity.

Podolski would walk into quite a lot of Serie A teams these days, this deal just seems like another way to grasp at a chance of getting into Europe somehow where will will then go and drop more money in the summer for players fitting Mancini. That is assuming of course we don't pull the trigger on Mancini by then.
You're right he would. But would he walk into Juve, Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina or Milan? No! Who the fuck cares if he can walk into a bunch of mid table clubs?! We should be aiming to better the clubs we want to compete with, not a bunch of midtable clubs for fuck sake!

Guess we should just write everyone off over the age of 28 then?
Or maybe you know, try to avoid bench warmers regardless of age and look for players who are actually doing well for their teams? Call me crazy, but these players may actually have a chance of succeeding at Inter..

Schelotto is a lot shitter than Dodo is.
Hindsight is a lovely thing. At Atalanta he was one of Serie A's hottest prospects. He'd done far more in Serie A than Dodo had at this stage.. They're both shit, Schelotto played in one of the worst Inter's of all time, Dodo has much more structure and much better personnel around him and is easily, without question, the worst starter* (not anymore it seems) on this team.

Schelotto's was shit among shit, Dodo is shit amongst something that is showing potential to be something special.. His Lazio performance was disgraceful, one of the worst performances a player of ours has put on this season.

Cheap backup? An option for the other wing. Going through the season with Podolski, Shaqiri, Palacio and Bonazzolli is acceptable.
Cheap backup? Yet one of our highest earners.. (y) His wages, don't just vanish, FYI. Bonazzoli is a cheap backup, Podolski is an expensive buddy for Vidic to play with. To put him on the other wing making him a starter is a bad thing. How are we ever supposed to properly challenge our rivals with inferior personnel?

Podolski can swim though.
This has nothing to do with Podolski, it has to do with us. We sure as hell can't. That's why we're 11th.

if we seriously do get shaqiri.... and also while at shaqiri, what letter is the J one in Jerdan? Is it the X or...?

we can all agree that if it was last seasons team dealing with our mercato, we would have gotten Diamanti or Lodi, or some piece of shit like that.

Podolski is good player, he is within our reach.

Shaqiri would be a wet dream...

Jesus, Kova, Shaqiri, Icardi... the fucking fuck... at least we can sell em all in couple of years and make a ~200 million euros profit :D
