One the things the differs from Napoli, which I think contributes to why Inter doesn't counter much, is that anybody could start a fast break at Napoli from anywhere on the pitch if they had space. Lavezzi, Cavani, Hamsik, Maggio, Zuñiga all could blitz forward with the ball at their feet and start a counter w/o many touches.

At Inter prolly Palacio and Kovacic can do this aside from the WBs. Icardi can't do this I think or at least I haven't seen it. I like him cause he is a great finisher but that bothers me sometimes, he need to add to his game at least to keep defenders honest where he can a least run 5 Yards with the ball.

Icardi has shown that he has some nice dribbling moves that open himself up for a shot, but he has shown to be lacking in the dribbling department in other situations. Another one of my concerns is that he seems to be lacking in acceleration. Something that he seemed to have a bit more of at Samp.

Icardi is a very fast player, but he never gets the chance to show it, because as I said we never EVEN TRY to counter. Mazzari wants to build Juventus 2.0. He has shown he still has that acceleration pace in games like Juventus, Lazio, etc...

Also, the biggest difference between Cavani and Icardi is that opposition players know Icardi is very dangerous if he gets in behind the defence, but that he is basically useless if he is far from goal. Whereas Cavani could be dangerous from either situation. Hence a team has even more incentive to play deep against us than they did against WM's Napoli.

But that is not only a tactic against Icardi. It's against our whole team. It's not like the rest of the team is comfortable with breaking down organized defences.

I mean against Torino we got like 1 shot on target and it was a long range effort from Hernanes....

Very fast? Our sprinting Chiellini doesn't make him very fast. I actually think he's fairly quick, but I just haven't seen an type of explosion off the mark recently. He certainly looked more swift at Sampdoria though

At Samp he was a fucking cheetah, I guess his injury last season slowed him down.

He did look faster in Samp tho, but they did play counter. I think Shaun is underrating him a bit, but Fap is overrating him a bit, he is kinda somewhere in the middle.

Maradona furious at Icardi Peace Match appearance

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona could not hide his discomfort at the appearance of compatriot Mauro Icardi at today's Peace Match organised by the Vatican City, stating that the initiative could lose his backing if the Inter youngster continued his involvement.

Maradona, whose Scholus team lost 6-3 to Javier Zanetti's 'Pupi Foundation', had previously criticised Icardi for his conduct with Wanda Nara, the ex-wife of fellow footballer Maxi López who started a relationship with the striker soon after announcing the end of her marriage.

"Icardi should not have played this match, due to a decision we had taken. We have to talk with the organisers," Maradona fired after the final whistle.

"We have to come to an agreement with the organisers and if not, [the initiative] can go on without Maradona. because football is great across the world."

Despite his objections to Icardi, who scored a hat-trick for the Pupi team, Diego was full of praise for the pope and his commitment to changing the world.

"Francis is a human being, he embraces you, he has his feet on the ground. He thinks about the hungry children in Africa and war. In me, he has a soldier, an ally. I will fight at the Pope's side," he affirmed.

What is this based on, Stjarnan game? By that logic Kovacic is the best midfielder on the planet.

Osvaldo misses plenty of chances. Even at Zeman's Roma with all that infinite attacking service he only managed 16 goals playing almost the entire season.

A lot of people here are also overrating his overall game. Yes, he's better than Icardi but that's not really saying much.

How on his good earth does that mean kovacic is the best midfielder on he planet. Every game this year season osvaldo has looked more effective than icardi.

I don't know what you mean by isolated, but most of Cavani's goals came from counterattacking - when teams had acres of space behind, or when their defences were not properly settled yet from running back. All his other goals were either penalties or rebounds from close up.

Icardi on the other hand, is sitting there like a tool with 8 people in the box, waiting for service, with absolutely 0 space behind their defence to exploit with his runs.

Cavani has never scored any Falcaoesque goals like that.

Watch this if you have time and see what I mean about the way Cavani scored his goals.

Who cares if cavani was isolated or not. He's world class. Icardi is....not.

That's why he's also good against Rube. Because they're the only team that are leaving acres of space in the back for him to exploit. All 4 of his goals against them were counterattacks.
this is what really frustrates me about icardi. he only functions against teams that leave acres of space at the back. against teams that prefer sitting back for the whole 90 minutes, he is non-existent. just like shaun, i also believe that he doesn't have what it takes to be a starting striker for a supposedly demanding, ambitious team like inter due to his limited abilities. such a shame because he is without a doubt one of the most clinical finishers on the planet.

icardi would be the perfect super sub ala julio cruz or ole gunnar solskjaer to me.

Maradona is the last person who can talk about this stuff.

Fucking cunt should take care of his 73846 sons around the world instead of bitching in a match for PEACE.

Maradona is a poor ex-worlclass player just living from his 20 years of career. He has failed in becoming a coach. He has failed in getting a satisfiing postcareer time (from what i think i can see). he not in good shape. He can't even play well amongst other oldies in games like yesterday. he is just walking around, not nearly took of the ball due to his status, but loosing every ball on ridicolous way as he never was pro.

Besides this he can't calm down, because everything he does is watched and commentated by milliones. Just like living in a zoo.
He has microphones over and over in his face and was never the smart guy. This all is where comments like this come out. Giving yourself the feeling of importance and media taking it friendly to get some headlines.

Over all, i feel with him. Shame for the player he was. Its like Gascoigne, not that bad today but on the edge before. Being a great footballer doesn't prevent you from the emptiness after.

that Icardi isn't the brightest light on a pitch, when it comes to loving your next the best was, is another theme.

Am I the only one who hopes Icardi stays happy for a long time with Wanda..at least untill the season is over?
This guy doesnt seem like a mentally stable dude, Im really afraid that once shit hits the fan with him and Wanda, his performance on the pitch will suck donkey dick..

You're right in saying that we do deliberately slow down play often. Which I too find strange

This started with the old guard as soon as Benitez left. I think it was a combination of age and the fact that Cambiasso, Zanetti, etc would have 90% passing every year but without ever making a dangerous pass. At one point we had superior technical ability to get away with this. However, now it even seems to be ingrained in the younger players and I'm not sure why. Main offenders are Jonathan and Ranocchia.

I notice it with the new signings now as well, it's like they notice no one else is going to run off the ball or move it quickly so they say fuck it if you can't beat them join them.

Icardi is Association trained, which made him more valuable to the squad like Inter.
