Icardi pushing for knee surgery?
By Football Italia staff
Mauro Icardi could be prepared to push for knee surgery rather than play through pain for Inter, so the Nerazzurri look to Romelu Lukaku or Duvan Zapata for next season.
It’s possible, according to the Corriere dello Sport, that Icardi has already played his final game in an Inter jersey.
The knee inflammation did not so much flare up straight after he was stripped of the captaincy, but rather he felt betrayed by the club and decided to look after himself, first and foremost.
After months of playing with pain-killing injections, Maurito reportedly ruled he would stay out and undergo treatment until he was fully healed.
In accordance with the Inter medical staff, he’ll be on the treatment table at least until March 7, then the knee will be evaluated again.
If it is not fully healed, there could be an operation to resolve the issue once and for all, which would effectively end his season – and Inter career.
Meanwhile, the club is already looking to the future with two names standing out in particular: Manchester United’s Belgium international Romelo Lukaku and Atalanta hitman Duvan Zapata.
The Gazzetta dello Sport even mentioned an Inter bid for Roma striker Edin Dzeko.
