FFP is all about accounting. so we got 35 mill from real madrid but in the books technically we also have a positive difference of 20 mill because kova's book value was 15 mill (and sale subtracted from book value counts as a profit or something like that).

Its accounting, not cashflow.

If we sign a player for 35m, over 5 years, that's 7m a year loss. After that first year, he's now book-worth 28m. After another year he's worth 21m.

If after 2 years, we sell him for 40m, that's a 19m book profit.

Thats why we had to sell Kovacic.

Browha is right. Kovacic sale gave us a profit+saving of €34m. This summer, we made a profit of €27m. There is no way we could have achieved that without selling Kovacic (or Icardi). So when Thohir says we sold Kovacic for FFP reasons, the numbers back him up.

Or maybe if we had bought less players, we could have kept Kovacic. But in the P&L:

Kovacic sale = Jovetic + Kondogbia + Perisic + Murillo.
