I have 2 concerns.

1) I feel we overpaid for him.

2) Might not be ready to contribute much this season.

I have a rule that for a player to be "ready" he needs to have 5000 minutes of competitive professional football played. Kovacic has 4693. So he is just shy and those minutes aren't in top flight. So I believe he will really start showing his abilities by next season.

The good thing is he is coming to a very poor midfield, so even if he doesn't hit the ground running, there aren't many players that can do any better.

4700 minutes of football is more than twice what Obi has, and this guy is only 18

11m+bonuses is a great deal - Arsenal offered like 9 last year and had it rejected.


Most importantly, this is CLEARLY not some fucking MM/MB 3 year chase like Paulinho. One can infer from that that this is a very targetted decision by Stramala, and if so, he will hit 5000 minutes before the end of Febuary I guess.

But he naturally comes centrally, and he's often wasted when on the wing. Again, he's a player who needs the ball to be most effective. He's ok on the wing, but he can become great in the middle.

He himself said his game most resembles that of Ozil's. A player who can play on the wing, but is best in the middle.

The right wing would be the worst option. He's a player who cuts in, not a player who will beat his man then cross. No point in him cutting in to his weaker foot."

Linz.. He doesn't speak Italian.. Anyway, about his character.. He is what you want for a professional..

Once, when he played for Dinamo youth team, he was a captain of that team, and he got fouled hard by opposing player and there was a fight on the pitch and he was included, but he took his jersey off.. When they asked him why he did that, he said "Dinamo captain can't behave like that wearing sacred shirt"..

He is true professional.. He doesn't go out, doesn't drink or party.. He goes to church every week, and he is ministrant. He also has a long time girlfriend and he values family like most important thing in the world..
