Materazzi on life without Serie A

Serie A is about to start and Marco Materazzi is without a club. “I miss it,” stated the former Inter player.

The 2006 World Cup winner had spent the last 13 seasons in the Italian top flight, but he’s now unemployed after leaving the Nerazzurri.

“I miss the atmosphere of the changing room and the surroundings at the Pinetina training complex,” he told GQ.

The defender was actually contracted to the San Siro giants until 2012, but he decided to rescind his contract a year early.

“I would have played on for another year, but I changed my mind after Inter told me that I probably wouldn’t be included in the Champions League squad,” he added.

“That didn’t anger me, I was just disappointed that they didn’t tell me sooner. They told me after the Coppa Italia Final when there was no time to even say bye to the fans.

“I thought that it would be wrong for me to fight and battle against the club that gave me everything. That’s when we decided to split.

“But I’ll return to Inter soon as I’ll be helping sporting director Piero Ausilio.”

Materazzi, now 38, joined Inter in 2001 from Perugia.

He WILL be back, we just don't know when.
