Oddly enough, I find myself thinking of something Brehme repeats ad nauseum. Perhaps the quality gap between Serie A and the EPL isn't as large as everyone makes it out be. Sure, finals are cagey. But a 35 year old Acerbi put the most prolific striker in the world in his pocket. Onana outplayed Ederson in every way. Before the match, Universe shared a "fan vote" photo of the final where the fans voted the best XI between our two clubs, the result which was 11 City players. Based strictly on last night's match, I would only put 4 City players in that XI.

Some city players are overrated as fuck and it's really been bothering me lately. This team is nowhere near the great pep barca teams etc. An old gundogan has been a star player for them this year ffs. That is more indicative on how the overall level europe wise has fallen rather than how amazing gundogan is (same with how players like modric have remained competitive). Rodri even though he got the goal obviously has been talk up so much lately like he's I don't know what. I don't even like him, he annoys me watching him play. Ridiculously overrated. Ederson over Onana really is a damn joke as well.

De Zerbi tactical analysis of Champions League Final

Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi gave a detailed tactical analysis of the Champions League Final, explaining how Inter’s Simone Inzaghi and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola tried to surprise each other.

The match was a hard-fought one at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, ultimately decided only by one goal, scored by Rodri bending the finish around defenders into the bottom corner.

The Nerazzurri had the chances to equalise, but Federico Dimarco hit the crossbar, while Ederson denied Romelu Lukaku and Robin Gosens.

“I think Inter played a perfect game defensively and attacked too,” De Zerbi told Bobo TV, the podcast run by Christian Vieri.

“It is difficult for everyone when there are so few spaces. Manchester City already seemed tired in the FA Cup Final against Manchester United and certainly did not play well.”

Many had expected this to be a domination from Guardiola’s men, but Inzaghi largely managed to muzzle their threat, particularly Erling Haaland.

“Stones is usually wide of Rodri, but he didn’t do that this time, he went further up and put Gundogan behind Brozovic. Putting Stones there was to create the space for Haaland.

“De Bruyne played on the left to draw Darmian out of position. That was the problem, in my view, because there wasn’t much space to get the service through,” explained De Zerbi.

“Inter are another great team, they played very well. People talk about Haaland, but if you want a second striker for two upfront, you won’t find better at making the diagonal runs than Lautaro Martinez. Indeed, Guardiola said that he expected Inter to sit deeper than they actually did.”

De Zerbi and his Brighton have impressed in the Premier League this season, securing Europa League qualification and earning praise for their tactics.

“Playing against a team that effectively has five at the back is always a problem, but that doesn’t mean you can’t win. Darmian was taking on De Bruyne, Bastoni came out to meet Stones, so the only City player who was truly free in the first half was Gundogan, but they were still too close together. It ended up being five pairs of players and the spaces got reduced.”

The statistics from the Champions League Final were ultimately rather even, with 57 per cent possession for City, but 14 attempts on goal to seven for Inter.

Ederson also made five saves and Andre Onana just three.

I think this is a bunch of crap. Lukaku's header was not one where you get to "aim". You turn your head to direct the ball towards the goal. Chances are ALWAYS that the goalkeeper can save it. Have you guys ever played any football or is it just the standard Lukaku hating? This shit is so fucking boring.

Dimarco's header was MUCH more of a "miss". He did have a chance to try send the ball elsewhere and he chose to lob it. And even then I am not going to blame him, he had a split of a second to decide.

The frustrating thing about Lukaku and Lautaro is that they both get in positions to score. Dzeko for example wasn't even doing that.

It's just they're completely unreliable in front of net. I'd say Dzeko is a more reliable finisher than those two, but Dzeko just doesn't have the legs to play at this level anymore.
I don't understand what you guys see in this old corpse which I don't?
He is neither able to get in positions to score nor a finisher. he is like a old turtle with +9m annually. I can't stand seeing him on the pitch anymore :palm:

Exactly, question remains how the hell did he get to start a Champions League final in his current state?

Have you not heard of the turtle and the hare, friend?
The turtle is slow and steady, and we will extend his contract.

Typical inter...At times of glory, comes twice as much frustration and sadness. It comes with being a fan of this club.

And this whole Lukaku thing is getting too much air time. He made a mistake and it didn't work out we can return him to be Chelsea but I don't think there is anyone on the market who is comparable that we can get and works so well with Lautaro.

If there is, I am all ears....In the golden years, Moratti would do whatever he could to sign Osimhen.

These days we have to accept the cards that are dealt and hope for a cheap bargain that can come good. I am of the view Lukaku should stay (reduced salary ofcourse if the economic conditions make sense) He and Lautaro make a good partnership, and they will miss chances but they will put a lot away.

I keep on thinking about the backpass that Lautaro ran onto.

I am not sure if I have been over thinking this but when the break was first on, I was looking at Lautaro's teammates to see who was close enough to support him. Lukaku was initially jogging, despite the break being on. I thought his pace was too casual and that he would not get into the box on time. And then Lautaro elected to shoot rather than pass to Lukaku once he was in the box.

I am wondering if I have totally misread this and whether I am conveniently blaming Lukaku or whether my interpretation of that passage of play is legitimate.

@brehme1989 had a great breakdown of that play, maybe in this thread? Effectively yes, if Lukaku had reacted properly he would have been able to be there behind Dias in the box, in front of him vertically so Toro could have given him an empty netter (still not free goal as it's Lukaku :giggle:) or at least attempt it. Now the play evolved so that the passing option to Lukaku was very low-odds case to succeed so Toro attempted the shot (not a good execution).

Lukaku must be hurting. This must be a nightmare scenario for any striker. Hope he makes up for it in his career.
