What the best way to go about learning italian?

Simple as fuck: :work:

Inter Radio, live commentary by the greatest Italian teacher himself, Mr. Roberto Scarpini :proud:

I started listening to that shit 2 years ago on every game, when I started gloryhunting Inter. Now I understand pretty much everything he says & I'm not talking about basic stuff like "Calcio di rigore per l'Inter" which everybody understands, but also more complex game analysis.

It's basically the same way a kid learns to speak. Just by listening & trying to imitate. Some where down the road the context & the meanings become more clear until you understand everything.

ForzAUW Scarpini!!! :proud: E GOL E GOL EGOLEGOLEGOL!

Oh yeah... & uhhh, I got Italian friends too with whom I can practice & I also took an Italian course. :pokerface:

ive wanted to learn it for a while now and ive decided now is the time to start. What the best way to go about learning italian?

id imagine quite a few on here speak it well as a second language. i know a small bit of french from school and have been to italy 5-6 times so have picked up little bits, mostly words and phrases rather than anything substantial.

i have a fair bit of time and am not in a mad rush to learn, over the next 2-3 years probably.

any advice/hints/tips/plans?

Learn the swear words first then the football terminology... Everything else doesn't matter a fuck ! Si capisce ?

My only serious recommendation, and I don't mean to be patronizing, is to actually practice. No point memorizing phrases and words and not using them. Like learning any language or software or whatever, if you don't use it regularly you'll forget it and fail your first HTML and JavaScript exam. Unless you're some kind of genius.

I guess I'd need to watch TV with subtitles or something... Not sure how else I can learn.

Shitty memories. :palm: Thanks Uni. :eek:blivious: I definitely agree on practicing and using it with people and saying.. when I learned another language from a class but finally used it two years later for a short trip, alot of it came back to me.

Took me a while to realise Calcio D'Angolo didn't mean ''English football''

Calcio = kick (hence football)
Angolo = angle
Calcio d'angolo = kick from the angle

Makes sense tbh

You can't argue against this!

When I was 15 I was just starting off as an Interista and liking football too because of Inter. To make things worse there wasn't any TV channels (non Sky, that we didn't have) that showed Serie A football. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for Scarpini I don't know if I would have been an Interista today. It was hard at first but, as Lionheart said, he is really easy to understand and with time you pick up more and more from him. I sat through half of the 04/05 season all the way through to the 07-08 where channel 5 started showing games. I still use the radio a lot even though I can watch our games regularly (it feels more Inter like). A great example is that I had our CL final game on the TV but had Scarpini at full volume on my pc speakers.

So when I went to Uni and was able to study Italian I jumped at it because I originally wanted to be able to understand more of what Scarpini was saying.

The same thing annoys me at times though as we have Interisti in Italy who believe they are greater Interisti than non Italians (I'm not raising the arguement up so don't worry) which is BS and I couldn't care less anyway but you can't really challenge anyone who is willing and trys to learn another language just because of their football club.

hahahaha I take a few days off for some knee surgery, come back & i'm being auctioned off :')

Seriously though, if you want to practice/speak some basic italian online i'm always happy to help on facebook or something, can't promise you won't pick up some things with sicilian dialect though XD

If you have an ipad there are some pretty sweet inter books you can buy through itunes which are really good places to start, you'll pick up more and more words as you go on & need to translate things less. Either that or just use gazzetta website to read inter news & again just translate bits you don't recognise :)
