AC Milan Legend Massimo Ambrosini: “Those Who Have Played Understand Why Inter Were Angry After Second Lazio Goal”
Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini believes that Inter players’ frustration after Lazio’s second goal in the clash between the two sides at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday was understandable.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 44-year-old gave the view that regardless of whether the goal was fair, he could understand as a former player why the Nerazzurri players were upset after the goal.
Inter defender Federico Diamrco had gone to the ground in some discomfort after a heavy challenge by Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva, and was yet to get back to his feet when the Biancocelesti counter-attacked through the centre of the pitch to find what proved to be the winning goal.
The goal stood and the referee did not blow to stop the game, but the Inter players were visibly frustrated with the circumstances, something which Ambrosini understands from the perspective of a former player.
He explained that “It is normal that a coach tends to say the right things on TV after the game, in an extremely elegant way as Inzaghi did, who does it correctly also to put his players in the right conditions to come back immediately. But we who have been on the pitch know it well – if that stuff happens to you there, it’s complicated to deal with.”
"We can tell us what you want,” he went on. “An extremely complicated situation, it is hard to give an objective evaluation beyond the rules. But all of us, on the pitch, would have been pissed off – you think you have been wronged, difficult to manage the next 10-15 minutes. There is no absolute truth, but probably the sense of sportsmanship.”
