I feel like the only time I can remember seeing Lautaro convert a penalty was during a game where I told my brother "this guy is a fucking terrible penalty taker, trust me, I've lived it", and he promptly scored on that penalty.

Of course, that was Argentina/Netherlands in the 2022 World Cup, so fuck all it did for me. I'm sure he's scored some penalties with Inter, but I can't remember any while I can immediately remember at least four or five misses he's had over the years. He's missed three in a row, right? Bologna, Atalanta, and now today...if he was a decent penalty taker, he'd be threatening the Serie A single season goal scoring record this year.

I will not judge a forward's quality from his PK taking. Even Messi has a relatively low PK conversion rate for a player of his calibre. FYI he missed 31 penalties out of 140 attempts. So I will not blame Lautaro for his abysmal penalty.
However, I do concern he could fall to the category of Immobile, Dario Hubner, Di Natale, and Quagliarella. They were a proflic Serie A strikers, but no one outside Italy give a shit about them. Lautaro flopped hard at the World Cup and his UCL record is starkly contrasted from his league record. Unless he improves this aspect, we will struggle to compete in Europe.

Assuming that's Messi you're talking about, I've often thought it amusing that his penalty taking doesn't seem automatic, almost like it's the weakest part of his game and that he feels more dangerous on a free kick 10 yards outside the box slightly to the left of center than he does from the spot, but if that 31 misses stat is correct (meaning he's 109/140 in his career), that's a 77.9% success rate, which isn't incredible (it's not Jorginho or Fernandes or Hakan-level) but it's actually pretty much bang-on the expected conversion rate for penalties. Penalties are ~75% proposition, so if you're converting above that, you're above average. Of course we don't tend to associate Messi much with the phrase "slightly above average" so our perception is skewed a bit.

Lautaro's stats, to my knowledge, were in the low 60% range and he's missed 2/2 since then. Alexis is apparently even worse, like sub-50%. That well-taken PK against Genoa gave Inzaghi false hope. Those guys have conversion rates in the same territory as Shaq's foul shooting.

The worst part is that when he scored against Liverpool a few years back, I thought he was really different than Lukaku. There was a glimmer of hope.

His performances in Europe have been straight up SHOCKING.

Here I was thinking he would light up Athletico. Oh well, I guess you can’t get everything you want from a striker. Maybe he’ll become something more clinical in the future, maybe he won’t. I guess we’ll enjoy our Serie A run and hope he can replicate it or preferably be even better next season regarding the CL. FORZA Inter!

Toro's a hero. Saying he needs to be sold is idiotic, fucker sucks in penalties but has given us a lot.

Tonight he wasn't great, but still set up Thuram 1v1
No, it's not idiotic. This is just a precaution. Lautaro have a great season, and he still can score enough goals to attract attention to PSG or somebody else.
From another hand, if he renew on 9mln net and he does not perform better that now, we will lose him on free contract as the club won't be able to satisfy his next wage demands.
I mean to sell him only of huge offer comes, of course.

Imo Lautaro was one of the few who did performan in the first half. Good link up play and kept possesion almost every time. After that he wasn’t good.

He didn’t had any help tho. Thuram, Dumfries, Mhiki and Bare where absolute thrash in posession.

He’s a good player but last night was just another example of why he will likely never be an elite player. He played well but that penalty….💀

He simply does not perform in the crucial games.

I don't get all the hate suddenly, he did fine, not his fault that we didn't even try to attack, he always was bad at pens, nothing new, he great player that need players with better attitude around him instead of clowns that only want to pass the time and not try to play football...

in NBA terms, hes an All-Star, but will never be a superstar... I really don't mind if he is sold for a bunch of money... And this has nothing to do with last night.

So if he scored two goals last night and we beat Atletico you were going to say the same thing?

i've been saying for years that id sell lautaro for 100-120M... And he wouldn't score 2 yesterday, as he ia UCL choker. Congrats for scoring bunch of goals in Serie A, but fucking Immobile was more impressive in this league and we all know he ain't that great.

For 100m+ I would sell also Lautaro.
But not for the reasons you say. Lautaro provided yesterday 2 great opportunities, made all by himself. Should one of them be converted, the whole story would be different.
Anyway, you turn out to be one of the most toxic on this forum. Every one try to articulate an argument in one direction or another, you are only bitching.

I believe he has hit his plateau at Inter a long time ago, this is as good as he will be in our shirt. Poor in Europe, inconsistent at best otherwise. Picture gets a lot clearer when you realize the platitudes he has been receiving this season are not for some outlandish success but merely because he is no longer invisible for 3 months straight and twice a season.

After that it's a matter of perspective - do we want a striker who is frustrating at times but will score his 20+ goals in Serie A or does that not matter if he flops when big stage games arrive? Should such a player command the highest wage in the squad if he is flawed and can't lead the team?

I will admit that I am really curious to see if Lautaro can be fixed elsewhere. What would happen if he was to slot into Barca/Atleti/City/Bayern? Would a more serious locker room that has higher standards rub off on him or would he still be his same old Lautaro? And if it would rub off on him, why isn't it happening with Argentina NT already? Food for thought.

For all the criticizing I wrote in this thread over the years, I'll say I'm very pleased with what he does in defense and midfield and his commitment is something I have never doubted at all. And while I won't fault him for the penalty, that penalty did knock his value down some just now and I don't see clubs getting in line to pay ludicrous sum higher than 100m for him this summer.

whats there to articulate? hes not scoring goals in Europe and thats bad for the first striker... And these are facts.
If anyone here is fine with paying him 10M per season then ok, i just don't think he's worth it.
