Our Grande Inter under Helenio Herrera was practically a defensive side, so was Mourinho's Inter. That's why we are known for our defense. Now the question is, have we ever had an Inter side with an attacking approach? Let alone a successful one?

I don't think Mourinho's sides were particularly defensive. Just in the CL. Most goals in the league in both seasons.

Angelo Moratti practically signed Pele in 58/59 with contracts signed and everything only to deposit the contract to the Lega but then the Brazilians started to riot against the Santos mgmt when hearing this so Angelo M,decided to tear up the contract.

MM's words:A fanatic who really goes to attack the president of Santos ... It was no longer a football affair but a matter of conscience, and so Dad tore that contract. "

They tried again in the future for Pele but then the borders closed up or some reason like that so the deal again was impossible...

Interesting,we could have had the best player of a generation in Inter and we would be even more famous...

The Moratti family brought Inter glory that makes Inter what it is today, and now we have a president who insists we need to sell the best to finance Mancini's retirement home...:palm: This are the dark ages again...This is a new time low for this club tbh.

Almost Puskás became an Inter player in the sixties...

Having an ultra powerful defense doesn't necessarily mean that the team doesn't attack.

Have we ever had an Inter side with an attacking approach? Let alone a successful one?

That's actually a really interesting question, is there any relevant title that Inter won with a team with a more attacking philosophy?

By that, I mean a team that became famous (this being the keyword) for it's goal-scoring power, rather than for it's tight defence. Mourinho's Inter, for example, scored a great number of goals and I wouldn't consider it a purely defensive team, but it's defensive abilites were more celebrated than it's attacking capacities.

If someone with more knowledge of Italian football history could answer this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if it fits your criteria but Inter 97/98?

It came to mind. It scored a good number of goals and won a continental championship, after all. Not sure if the team is memorable though - it is for us, Inter fans, because of Ronaldo, Simeone etc., but maybe not so much in Italy as a whole. I admit I may very well be wrong about this.

IIRC the tactic was pass it to ronaldo and then wait something to happen.
When you have Ronaldo it makes perfect sense actually. :-D

Yes i agree. It was a joy to watch. You never know what trick he will do. I think he was almost double marked every time he play and yet he still scored 20++ goals that season. I never seen any player carry the whole team like ronaldo did.

Despite the different role, when we consider the technical skills and the ability on free kicks, maybe the closest to sneijder in those days imho was probably Mario Corso rather than Mazzola

nah...Corso was a flashy dude for that time..dribbler with a great shot...he moved around so swiftly,Sneijder isn't a dribbler
MM wanted Recoba to be his Corso...but he kind of failed
well It's hard to compare rly because football was so fucking different back then...more static play and just...weirder lel

Mazzola actually is a type of player not even seen at Inter after him tbh, what a beast he was!No one comes close tbh-tbh

Watched the final against Benfica, I genuinely really enjoyed it, way less stoppages.

I love Cordoba to bits, but surely we've had better ones? Samuel, for example?
