Sky: Moratti has given green light on the Internacional and U20 Brazilian National Team defender Juan Jesus. The offer right now is at 3.5 million which is a bit low compared to what his club is asking for but this deal should close without problems. Then Inter will decide on whether to bring him in in January or wait until June.

Jonathan must be happy, he gets a buddy to warm the benches/medical tables with him whilst Samuel, Lucio and Ranocchia display their comedy of errors.

Who's the last young centerback (18-22) that moved to a big club straight from south america and became top class? Is there any playing right now? Samuel came pretty young to Roma right? 23? Maybe he'll play more as a left back and eventually move into the center. I don't see us starting a 20 year old with not European experience at centerback in anything but the Coppa Italia.

If it were up to me and this guy was even half way decent he would be a starter right next to Andrew Froggley..

Since we are not a big club anymore the comparison should be with a mid-table club. I guess there are a couple out there.

Thiago Silva? Cordoba? Lúcio? I think the 3 have been with 23 years old

I'm pretty sure Silva was 25. Lucio went to germany, and I'm not sure if I'd call Bayer Leverkusen a top class team. I'll give you Cordoba though. I guess for every Cordoba theres a few Breno's.

Neverkusen is not a "big" team per say but its all relative as they went to the UCL final in his 2nd season there. So he was playing "big" matches and he was a big part of their success. They lost in the final as they usually do, hence the Neverkusen, but he played in important matches.

The thing I'd like to see from South Americans coming to Europe is whether they have sustained long periods of success with their clubs. It indicates that his success is not an aberration as he can sustain it. Its never a 100% slam dunk that they'll succeed, not even if its someone who has shown successes in an European league. so you are always gambling you just have to do what you believe is best.

I did the maths, and he arrived at Milan at 23, but then again, I can be wrong lol

There's always the Marcelo example though, but he got better when Mourinho started coaching madrid

Thiago Silva joined to Milan when he was 24, he's birthday is on September so basically he was 25 when he first played for them (in the beginning of 09-10 season). That doesn't fit anymore to the youngster category IMO.
