a demand of a sign-on fee ? never heard of this, free agents may ask for big salaries and that's it.
Have you never heard about sign on-fees for free agents!?
Lately I read an article about why Feyenoord didn't sign Guidetti. The reason to this was his high demand for salary but as well the sign-on fee he wanted. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-loan-star-john-guidetti-5520784
Guidetti’s terms have been described in Holland as being so ‘astronomical’ that Feyenoord have chosen to shelve the talks.
A source close to the club said: “He is looking for an astronomical amount and there is no chance of an agreement at this stage.
“Clearly he has been advised that, as a free agent, this is his chance to make an enormous sum of money.
“Effectively, he wants to be paid the equivalent of a transfer fee, cash in hand. Feyenoord were willing to take a chance on him but not at any price. If he thinks he can get that money elsewhere then he can try.
“If he cannot then perhaps the talks can begin again and the player will be more reasonable.”
That is why you just can't say Konoplyanka will be for free as it depends on the amount of interesting clubs and therefore the amount of money his agent has told him to pursuit. This is often normal for free agents and its also why some of them ends up waiting a long time before they sign with a club.
