Luis Oliveira to Venezia

Oliviera moves from Foggia to Venezia, the team is fighting for the degradation.

Its his 7th Italian team now. He played before for Cagliari, Fiorentina, Bologna, Como, Catania and Foggia.

How is Lamouchi doing at Genoa? I know that they are almost certain to move up to serie A next season.

Empoli have over-taken Genoa for 1st place in Serie B. With only 4 weeks left, it'll be a tight race though it doesn't really matter as we all know the first 2 teams are promoted regardless.

The real interest is the 6th and final playoff spot. Modena, Ascoli, Verona, Piacenza and Albinoleffe are all separated by just 3 points.

Serie B: Giants prepare party Sunday 5 June, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Genoa and Empoli could be automatically promoted to Serie A this evening, while the battle for play-off positions at both ends of the table becomes more complex.

“This has been a very long season and now we can achieve something wonderful,” stated Genoa Coach Serse Cosmi. “In every corner of the city you can smell the tension and the desire for Serie A. The squad can see the finish line and wants to cross it as quickly as possible.”

Genoa last tasted the top flight in 1994-95, when they went down after losing a relegation play-off to Padova on penalties. If they beat mid-table Piacenza, then the city can celebrate its return to Serie A.

It will also be an important comeback for Empoli, who need only a point against Arezzo to be sure of their promotion after just one season in the wilderness. Despite selling stars such as Antonio Di Natale and Tommaso Rocchi, the Tuscans have powered forward with a 21-match unbeaten run.

“A positive result will start the party in front of our own fans – and all in a derby match, too! It would be a dream come true,” said Empoli striker Luca Saudati.

Perugia and Torino must win their games to have any hope of capturing those two automatic places, but they now look set for the play-offs that involve teams placed third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Toro sensationally sacked Coach Ezio Rossi this week and will play those remaining matches with director Renato Zaccarelli on the bench.

The relegation situation is rather more complicated. Catanzaro and Venezia are already doomed to Serie C1 and Crotone will follow this weekend if they lose away to Pescara and Triestina beat Perugia.

Although only three sides are promoted to Serie A, four will go down to the Third Division. The new rules implemented this season state that the last three in the table are relegated automatically, then there will be a play-out between the fourth and fifth from bottom.

However, if there is a gap larger than four points between those two sides, then there will be no need for a deciding encounter. That is highly unlikely to apply considering the close battle to avoid the drop with only two rounds left to play

Teams I want to see:

Genoa - Great soccer city, and they deserve it
Torino - What else? To show the Zebras how a Serie B team still has more fans than them at home
Perugia - Beating Los Zebras in the last day in 2000 is an eternal distinction

Good list Hamed. Genoa have been getting immense crowds (at least for Serie B) so hopefully they win today to achieve automatic promotion. Also agree on Torino, plus they move into they're new stadio next season I believe!

Little Empoli will most likely be back in Serie A. I can think of a few teams I'd like to see ahead of them but I guess I have no say in the matter. :p

FYI- Napoli are in the Finals for Serie C1. The winner, obviously, gets promoted to Serie B. Good luck to them!

Promoted: Empoli and Genoa

Play-offs: Treviso vs. Perugia and Ascoli vs. Torino

I'd like to see either Granata or Perugia for the other promotion spot. Preferably the former.

In case you haven't found out by now (though I'm sure you have) it is 2 legged. 1st leg was a 0-0 draw at San Paolo. Napoli score an away-goal and they have a good chance of getting promoted. I'm pulling for 'em!

Serie B Playoffs kicked off today and they're good results if you're a fan of the more traditional (and popular) teams like me.

Ascoli 0 - 1 Torino
Treviso 0 - 1 Perugia

Great, thanks for the update. I totally forgot about it. So now Genoa and Empoli made it, and if one of Torino-Perugia or is it both?
