I hate to see such assumptions that Albelda and Baraja will totally neutralize Stankovic blablabla stuff. Ridicilous. In the 5-1 victory we totally owned the midfield, but I'm sure the duo has developed, but so has Inter and it's midfield. Inter is such versatile team that we can adapt almost every style of play with the same First XI. This'll be a nutcracker I think, but I hope we'll have a similiar display like againist Milan until Matrix red. Rock solid defence and decisive attacks.

For me, Baraja is completely finished, the starter for them is Edu, but we are lucky he is injured for all the season.

A few things, no matter how good Grosso becomes by then (I have faith he will be a great player for us still), Javier Zanetti has to play left back, there is no way we can let Grosso play left back with Vicente and Miguel coming at him, especially since Grosso is such a attacking full back, Miguel and Vicente will make us pay, if Vicente is injured (which he most likely will be  ) they still have David Silva, who is just as good as Vicente.

Maicon has to play right back, I think he can handle Joaquin who is easily the most inconsistent player in both teams (Adriano doesn't count) and hopefully Del Horno will be injured as well then its another bonus. Materazzi and/or Samuel can handle Morientes (btw @ the San Siro they will play one striker) but I honestly doubt that Cordoba can take on Villa, he has the pace obviously, but technically I can see Cordoba being made a fool out of, @ the San Siro Materazzi can help him out but at the Mestalla, the only defender we have who can take care of Villa (in terms of attributes) is Burdisso.

I'm confused. :p :undecide:

If Grosso plays as LB, then he should face RWs and RBs. He'll face Joaquin, not Vicente.

Maicon (the RB) will face Vicente.

Valencia's formation (Direction: South):

Joaquin--------------Vicente

Inter's formation (Direction: North):

Grosso---------------Maicon

Well, but that Inter side wasn't even close to what this is at the end.

That Toldo treble save in that away game was totally legendary though. Amazing stuff it was. Anyone has the video? I lost it... :(

Do not under any circumstances call Inter - Inter Milan. ;) There is no Milan in our name. It's Milano.

Marcello's thread from the CL forum has been merged with this. :)

I think we should discuss Inter's season in the forums under the parent forum F.C. Internazionale Milano. Ie, forums like "Games & Tactics", "General Inter Stuff" and such.

Whereas, the discussion of non-Inter football should be kept in the forum under "General Football Discussion," ie, forums like "Champions League" or the "Italian & European Leagues" forum. This will keep discussion very neat. :)

It's in a long time from now, instead of talking about Valencia's injuries we should be concerned with our own. The game is in a long time from now and who knows we can have injuries of our own by then. I agree with catanha that Zlatan will have to be the difference maker in these 2 legs, Ayala will do a number on Crespo and I think it's fair to say that Cruz and Recoba aren't good enough to get us through to the quarters (I won't even mention Adriano) so Ibra will have to be on top of his game (which he is right now).

I don't trust Grosso at LB, mostly because he is too slow for the quick wingers that Valencia have like Joaquin who will make minced meat out of him. I say we give Burdisso a go a LB, Javier at RB and Matrix-Cordoba in the middle. For me the big question is our midfield...Dacourt will be back by then so should we go with him and Vieira which was working so good at the beginning of the season or should we play Cambiasso-Vieira which seems to be going well too.

Like I said earlier it's too earlier to tell. Don't count your jews before they hatch.

if you put recoba on albelda and baraj will just gobble him up and completley negate him from the game. in fact ANY central attacking midfielders for inter will be negated by baraja and albelda.
Inters best bet is to play with cambiasso and viera, and use the wings.

Valencia attacks thru wings and the center...you will need cabi and viera to block out silva who will play att playmaker.

I gotta diagree big time man. I have been watching Valencia off an on for the best part of a few years now. I watch Inter week in and week out and I gotta say if Valencia come up against Stan with Vieira, Dacourt and Esteban behind him they will have no hope breaking through that down the middle. Baraja and especially Albelda are very good. But they will be pressed back by these four with ease. That means no attacking down the middle which really isnt Valencia's forte anyway.

I really dont think Inter will get anything from the wings though. They will need to negate those portions of the field and charge up through the middle. This will incapacitate Valencia's wing options as they have a tendency to break out from their own half from the middle then distribute to the wings.

I think this is going to be a cracking game but it is going to come town to tactics. IF that LB Cerra plays we are guranteed a goal, cause he blows balls. Also for once I can also say that Mancini may actually have the tactical edge over his opposition in a two legged tie in the CL. Quique is a ****tard and for some reason refuses to play both Joaquin and Vicente at the same time. Plus when he plays away from home he likes to play with one forward. Take the Zaragoza game for example they were all over you in the first half and had several chances to score. Too bad they were retarded and refused to shoot when they were in the box. It took a wonder goal from Angulo and some desperate containment exercises to ensure the win against a very average side. You will not get away so easily with that kind of display at the San Siro.

The keys for this match are Maicon against Vicente which I like. Maicon is not the most technically gifted player there is. But from what I have seen Vicente struggles against speedy fullbacks with strength to push him off the ball. Saying this though Vicente does have the technical abilit to round Maicon with ease he will need help from Dacourt to slice Vicente down.

The other match up I like Ibra against whoever. Albiol is a huge defender and will more than likely try to muscle him out of it. But with his clod feet I think Ibra has it in him to take him to the cleaners. My only worry is that Albiol seems like the type of player that would easily get under Ibra's skin. This means one of two things will happen. 1.) Ibra will own him and show him that he has no talent. 2.) Ibra will make it his personal vendetta to embarrass Albiol and play for himself rather than the team.

I also dont like Grosso OR Maxwell against Juoquin. You need experience and guile to take him on but there is at best a 50/50 chance we will face him in combination with Vicente. Zanetti at LB would be my choice. Burdisso would be adequate but I think Joaquin would get around him easily at least once for a solid chance.

This is prolly the most balanced tie of the round and it is going to be awesome for both sets of fans to see what their teams can do against the other. If Inter can keep this form into the new year and Valencia continue to be injuired then it should be no problem. But I think most of Valencia aside from Marchena and of course Edu will be recovered in time to face us. This means that it will be a huge ask of Mancini to show us what he has when taking on one of the better squads in Europe.

Balanced? I don't see it as balanced at all. It's like saying the Roma-Lyon is a balanced tie. We're way better than Valencia even with all of their starters.
