Siena make Scudetto pledge
Tuesday 6 May, 2008

Francesco Totti thinks Inter will win the Scudetto on Sunday, but Siena’s general manager isn’t so sure. “I’m a Roma fan and I told them to get a result!”

The gap at the top has now been cut to three points with just two games to go, but if the Nerazzurri beat Siena at San Siro this Sunday then the race is mathematically over.

“I think Inter will win on Sunday. There are many regrets over the way our season went, but that is part of football,” mused Totti on Sky Italia.

He was initially ruled out of action for six to eight months after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

“Physically I am much better and when I can I’ll resume playing tennis, too. I should be back for the start of next season.”

If Totti has given up on Siena’s hopes of tripping up Inter, then the same cannot be said of Robur general manager Giovanni Lombardi Stronati.

“I wish all it would take was us stopping Inter to give Roma the Scudetto, but I can assure everyone that we will do our part. Roma should focus only on Atalanta and Catania,” he smiled.

A few of Siena’s players revealed this week that Lombardi Stronati demanded a result at San Siro from the squad that has now secured safety.

“If the players said it, then it must be true… It is well known I am a Romanista and Roma represent part of my family history. Clearly I would love to stop Inter and we will try to do so.

“Besides, we are missing at least two points to beat our all-time Serie A record, which is currently 43, so that is further motivation.”

There could be another layer of loyalties at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as the Scudetto race hits boiling point.

“I want to win and would love Daniele Portanova to score a goal. I know he is a Lazio supporter, but he owes me one…”

Beretta: We Can Beat Inter
Siena boss Mario Beretta believes that his side can further delay Inter’s Scudetto celebrations this weekend.

The Nerazzurri missed the chance to clinch the championship yesterday afternoon when they lost 2-1 to Milan in the derby.

Most people believe they will take their next opportunity this weekend when they host Siena at the Stadio Meazza.

The Tuscans have nothing to play for, having sealed their survival yesterday, but Beretta stresses they will be giving their all.

“On Sunday afternoon we will go to play at San Siro with no pressure and no negative tension,” he stated.

“We will play our game trying to hit Inter in their weakest points.

“We know it is going to be tough, but that won't stop us from playing our game. We have already achieved safety this season, but this match still means something to us.

“Inter are always lucky against Siena, since they won the Scudetto last year when they played us.”

Siena have had some excellent results against the top teams this season, having beaten Roma, Fiorentina and Juventus, even if all of these results came at home.

yea with our form any coach can feel confident about beating us. We are not the team we should be and hopefully the derby was the turning point haha. We can only hope, and i am praying for a win against siena. I am chearing on atalanta who are very dangerous. LETS GO INTER please, balatelli and jimenez should definately play and i feel they could be the game breakers!

Cautioned: Balotelli, Burdisso, Cambiasso, Chivu, Cordoba, Figo, Jimenez, Julio Cesar, Maicon, Rivas, Stankovic.

We have no one suspended for this game and should be on full strength minus the injuries

Lete play 4 Dm's and hand the Scudetto to Roma. Mourinho will come for sure then.

I would celebrate Mourinho replacing Mancini more than being "Campioni Di italia" this season  .

Its all the bitch in my avatar's fault.

Come on, buddy! U can't say this. Every trophy is more important than players/managers.

Mou will come even if we win. Inter losing the Scudetto on Sunday would be worse than the 5th of May

Han, we in US will see it delay too (if it happens). For some unknown reason, FSC shows the game delay on 2.00 p.m., instead of 9 a.m. like their normal live match. So I might have to follow it here & knowing the result before get to watch it.

If there's a stream, sure. Although it's really not a preference to watch on this 17" laptop compare to big-screen tv, but still better than waiting.

I know I'm dreaming, but how I wish it's Jimi instead of Stan on that spot.

Still no Ibra :(
