MILAN - Inter Primavera are set for an appointment with history. On Thursday 8 November Vincenzo Esposito's Scudetto-winning side will face Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world, as part of the English team's 150th anniversary celebrations.
World football legend Pelé will kick off the friendly match, to be played at Championship side Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground, which boasts a capacity of 33,000 and is the oldest major stadium in the world still to be hosting professional football matches.
Sheffield FC was founded on 24 October 1857 by William Prest and Nathaniel Creswich who chose football as a valid alternative to cricket to keep their fitness levels up during the winter months. An amateur club, Sheffield FC are the only other team besides Real Madrid to have been awarded the FIFA Order of Merit.
They currently play in the Unibond Northern Premier League Division 1 South and are fourth in the table, 5 points behind leaders Retford United but with two games in hand.
Primavera coach Vincenzo Esposito is without injured defender Daniele Federici and three other players (Francesco Bolzoni, Gabriele Puccio and Paolo Tornaghi - all called up for the first team's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow) for Thursday's clash.
Inter's Under-19 side leave for Sheffield tomorrow and will train at Bramall Lane on Thursday afternoon ahead of the historic match.
