Bravo is set to revive Football Italia after poaching the rights to Italian Serie A League football from British Eurosport.

The Flextech-owned broadcaster has teamed up with Irish broadcaster Setanta for a two-year deal, which will give Bravo the rights to screen the key matches on Sunday nights from 28 August.

It will also show a recorded mid-week match, an hour-long highlights programme and a weekly magazine show.

Setanta, which brokered the estimated £1m deal with rights holder Sport 5, will air the remaining games live on Setanta Sports 1 and 2 and on Setanta Ireland.

Bravo has commissioned All3Media-owned producer North One to produce its footage, which will be anchored by veteran Serie A presenter James Richardson, who moves over from British Eurosport.

Richardson and North One head Neil Duncanson have a long history with Serie A. North One, formerly Chrysalis TV, produced Channel 4's Gazzetta Football Italia coverage back in the 1990s, which Richardson anchored.

Duncanson said the shows would be similar to C4's classic magazine-style show, which was feted for making the often confusing world of Italian football relevant to British football fans.

North One entertainment editor Carri Rosen will series edit, while Don Terretta, who also worked on the original C4 series, is executive producer. North One is also in talks with Setanta about pooling resources such as commentators and other costs.

Changes to Football italia

 Thanks for the info Keir. Let me get this straight. For the season 06/07 I need to get access to both Bravo and Settanta sports. I currently only have freeview and can access Eurosport on top up TV. So I am ok for this season. For the changes will I have to subscribe to Sky or will I be able to get Bravo and Settanta without giving Rupert Murdoch any money?

Sounds like Bravo are planning to do a better job than Eurosport are doing.

Hamed maybe you can answer this for me or any other canadian members. Does this effect TLN? TLN gets there games from the British Eurosport and so the British Eurosport is no longer showing games will TLN be able to make a deal with Bravo and the Setanta networks?

Hmm, I was thinking the same actually. I went to TLN's website and they said:

STAY TUNED FOR THE RETURN OF TLN'S EXTENSIVE
ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER COVERAGE
BEGINNING AUGUST 28TH

So I guess nothing changed for the moment. But I am pretty sure it won't affect it, although I hope they get rid of the annoying british commentator with the sleepy voice, horrible pronounciation, and mistaken facts :fero:

I think Setanta is in the main Sky Package, witch should cost around £25. I pay £33 to get Sky Sport as well.

1 game? That sucks, we were getting 2 or 3 last year

it depends whether i have read it right or not. it states:

give Bravo the rights to screen the key matches on Sunday nights from 28 August.

that could possibly mean more than one match per night

setanta is NOT free

check here:

http://www.setanta.com/content/setanta/uk/cms.nsf/systemcontent/subscribe

also, FAO spagbelli it mentions about top up tv so all might not be lost

Well, I have setanta channels on my listing, it says that broadcasting will start next week, and there aren't telephone numbers to call to join as there are on other channels such as Chelsea TV or Man UTD Channel. So I'm really not sure...

I am very confused right now.
I thought Setana was an independant channel, which could be purchased on it's own. no?

I think it's the guy that works with Agnew and they usually do the evening games. He says his name after the game but I could never understand him. Crazy Brits! :p

Seriously I love Brtitish announcers though. There's nothing worse than a Yank calling a game. :yuck:

Yeah Brad, I think that's him. There is one guy that is the main guy, and he is fine. He has accurate stats and says the names correctly. But there is one guy that comes solo sometimes, mostly in morning games, and I want to scream when I see him.

I don't catch their names, I didn't even know they say it at the end. I just understand when they say good night to each other :D

And Yanks as commentators? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They s-u-c-k, and they try and call it like an NFL game, hyping up every move. I can't tolerate watching Bunesliga from that now.

I may have observations against Brit commentators, but they are the best overall. I like their wit, specially those that commentate on La Liga games, they are hilarious at times.

Hamed I know which commentator you are talking about.
The one with the really lazy voice, he really, really gets on my nerves.

He's very slow on the move, and I hate the way he calls "Martins" to "Marteeeens"
ARGH!

But, atleast the good one is tranferring over to Bravo/Setanta

Right mate, I just called Sky and Setanta, this is the info I got:

- Setanta is an independent Sport Channel. You can get it through Sky or cable, but you need to sign up with them directly.

- It's freakin expensive! £14 per month or £140 for a year. Minimum contract 12 months. Activation fee £5.

- If you want to contact them you can do so on 08700 506980

I will have to see how many games they're showing before I decide if it's worth paying that money...

I know who you guys are talking about now, Patti Agnew is great but I think this guys name is Trevor something. I agree he is very lathargic and somewhat annoying but I still don't mind lol.
