After having a day to think over this shitty result I have had time to calm down and attempt to reach some sensible conclusions. For a couple of reasons this defeat upset more than any in a long time. In part it was due to the way we played, the biggest factor in our rise to the top has been the hard work shown consistently throughout the season. As I have stated before 1-0 type games require full concentration and hard work for 90 minutes. Yet this was lacking for the most part against Lazio. Also the fact that it was the last game of 2015, at home, was a perfect chance to sign off on what has been an excellent season and give everyone involved with the club an early Christmas present.
When I saw the lineup I admit I thought like others that it didn't look great, but I have thought that a few times this season and have often been proved to be a typical no nothing twat. Mancini has tinkered a lot this season, evident by the fact that we are yet to play the same starting XI in more than one game, yet usually he is spot on. Now and again it seems he will get it wrong, like everybody, and this was unfortunately evident. Leaving Ljajic and Brozovic on the bench when the former is our most creative player and the latter in arguably the best form of his life is pretty baffling. Melo and Medel in midfield is pretty uninspiring, granted we have had success when they have both played but they are both so very one dimensional.
This brings me onto Melo. Melo will always work his socks off and give everything and I think he has already proved to be a great signing for such a small price. Yet this was without a doubt one of the worst displays I have witnessed by any player in some time. His passing was shite, infact it has been for a while now, and he offered nothing but the chance of either a penalty or red card. Incredibly he attained both of these with two separate incidents. The question is what the fuck happened to him and also why the fuck Mancio did not bring on either Kondogbia or Guarin (YES FUCKING GUARIN).
Unfortunately their were other average/poor performances which were overshadowed by Melo's. Jovetic is a frustrating player, I feel he thinks he is better than he is, often trying to dribble past someone only to lose the ball. Perisic was dog shit bar his assist. Except for Miranda/Murillo no one seemed to offer anything. I feel sorry for Icardi, he basically had one chance and scored it, we really need to work on helping him out as it seems like he will score most good/half chances. This is definitely something both he and the team have to work on in the second half of the season.
The rotation has been pretty random this season, and tbh it has worked most games, yet there needs to come a point where we settle with a stable starting XI. The only gripe so far is that it seems Mancini is still someway off working out his ideal formation/lineup. That is not to say we need one, as clearly the approach taken so far is working well for now.
Overall I apologise for the long and partly negative post, this game should not detract from the almost impossible transformation the team has gone through over the past year. Just think last Christmas we were rotting in 10th or some shit now we are 1st. Not only that but with such a new team and to only have lost the 3 games so far is pretty immense, I can only see us improving further in terms of link-up and cohesiveness in the new year. Sunday's defeat felt more like a blip, reminiscent of last season, but so long as both coach and players learn from it then I don't give too much of a shit.
Finally Merry Fucking Christmas everyone, can't wait for the new year and the chance, however slim, to win the title. Anywhere in the top 3 will be an incredible achievement, especially with the competition offered by Rube, Napoli, Fiorentina and Roma.
