Lazio has actually something to play for here. In a case Atalanta wins the EL, 6th team in the Serie A standings makes it to the CL aswell and Lazio is just 1p behind Roma.

The rule has changed? As far as I know, 6th team joins CL if they finish outside top 5. Atalanta will be 5th eventually so that rule won't be applied.

I know it’s not exactly the same scenario, but seeing the attention and enthusiasm Leverkusen’s unbeaten run has created, I’m dumbfounded how fans of this club at this point, with the Championship in the bag, shrugged their shoulders at a potential all-time point record and are now shrugging their shoulders at a potential club-point record (and least conceded amount of goals in a season) and going ‘no, who cares about that, seeing Asllani and Buchanan play 15 percent more football than they otherwise would have before is more important to me’.

It’s not the end all, be all, but people remember and cherish record-setting teams, and whereas it won’t make much tangible difference if Bisseck plays 30 or 90 minutes against Verona.
