Mancini names squad for Inter vs Empoli

APPIANO GENTILE - Roberto Mancini has called up 19 players for Sunday afternoon's Serie A Week 21 match against Empoli (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 15:00).

Goalkeepers: 1 Francesco Toldo, 12 Julio Cesar.

Defenders: 4 Javier Zanetti, 6 Maxwell, 13 Maicon, 16 Nicolas Burdisso, 23 Marco Materazzi, 24 Nelson Rivas, 26 Cristian Chivu.

Midfielders: 5 Dejan Stankovic, 11 Luis Jimenez, 14 Patrick Vieira, 19 Esteban Cambiasso, 28 Maniche, 30 Pelé.

Strikers: 8 Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 9 Julio Ricardo Cruz, 18 Hernan Crespo, 29 David Suazo.

Now that we have Deki back, can we put Chivu as CB, alongside Matrix? Coz I'm really not sure about Niko.

Seeing the call up, I wish the starter will be:

JC
Maicon Chivu Matrix Max
JZ Deki/Vieira Chuchu
Jimi
Ibra Suazo

-Cruz might play in 2nd half, if he does at all. Just because we need to rest him. He's been playing non-stop & full in the last few games.
-Would also love to see Rivas play (couldn't see Coppa here). Maybe Mancini can give him some minutes, maybe after we got the 3 points in the bag.

On paper we should be able to handle Empoli. Good thing Giovinco won't be in their starting 11 coz of injury.

Looking forward to see this game. Hopefully the boys are in the good mood after beating the zebras.

Forza INTER!!

I hope we will try this time to play Chivu, where he plays best and that is the center of defence. I am anxious to see how he will do with Matrix.

I see there still no Figo in the list, and now it is more likely that Figo won't start, or even won't play at all in the first leg of the Liverpool tie. Bad for us...

I've watched Empoli a few times this season, and they can be tricky. We all know Vanucchi's free-kicks and our own keeper when it comes to that. A single stupid tackle outside the penalty box, and bang, we can lose. But at the same time, he can be a burden to any club. Comes with the territory of using a playmaker.

Pozzi is their other threat. A goal-poacher, and quite a good one too. I am less worried now, after seeing Materazzi against Udinese. Matrix really worried me for the future previously, but let's hope he can continue on this path.

Giovinco gone, is half the battle won right there, even if the Juventino is highly overrated. Took him months to get a starting spot at Empoli, so he can hardly be that good. The Juventini seems to wanna make him the new Pato and Balotelli. Hah!

We gotta win this, and we gotta get back to winning games comfortable again. It's our style, and we need to find it, or else I am scared that nerves will play a huge part in this squad. Five points to Roma is nothing.

Chivu is playing at DM or Rb usually think Rivas will finally get his big shot, and he did very well last time he partnered with Matrix. Would be sick to see him but Matrix and Rivas r 2 very physical players.... kind of would make me scared one of them is going to have a brain hiccup and get a red

Is Cordoba injured or Mancini just letting him rest cause Cordoba is Mancini's colombian lover haha loves cafe

tho I would love to see Super Mario play as well think we are only 5 points from Roma and shouldnt get too cocky

Vanucchi certainly has a lethal shot. He scored two crackers against us, one in 02/03 and another in 05/06. It's really a wonder how no big team has been linked with him.

Jimmy is right, after a shaky start to the new year, we managed to secure an important win against Juve in Coppa Italia. Now we need to stamp our authority in Serie A once again by comfortably beating Empoli. We can, and should, go all out as there will be no mid-week matches until the crucial away tie at Anfield on 19 February.

Empoli are always a tough nut to crack and I have no idea what line up we'll be fielding for this game.

There you go:

Inter: 12 Julio Cesar; 4 Zanetti, 16 Burdisso, 23 Materazzi, 26 Chivu; 14 Vieira, 19 Cambiasso, 5 Stankovic; 11 Jimenez; 8 Ibrahimovic, 9 Cruz

We all predicted it easily, right ?

No offense to Burdisso, but I would rather see Rivas there, who is playing much better than him.

Nice to see Vieira from 1st minute. Looking forward to it.

And I agree Rivas looks in better form then Nico, but it's nothing big.

Yes, expected lineup if we know Maicon and Cordoba are injured (too bad that they can't play).
Probably we are going to see Max in the second in for Jimenez, then Chivu DM and Stankovic behind Ibra and Cruz.

Cordoba was training separatly lately, and as for Maicon he was change at the end of the Juve game due to the slight injury.

Really surprising line up. J.Z back to RB spot. Also really surprised by Burdisso inclusion, as I think it might have been better to have a Matrix-Chivu duo and have Maxwell at LB, than to include Burdisso in the lineup, who is so not in a good form.

Wide shot/cross by Jimi. That's the best of our rare chances so far at 12.54
