I was actually trying to make a poll but I can't see the option, maybe a mod can add it later.

Anyways, how do you rate this first half of the season?

Compared to last year we have two fewer points but we also played champions League.

Our group wasn't the easiest but in the end it was in our hands to go through and we weren't able to beat psv.

On a positive note though, at least our first champions League campaign in 7 years ended with the same points as Tottenham, whose players have some more experience playing in the cup.

So it'll be Europa League.

Apart from the results, there seems to have been some progression in terms of game play, it is a bit more fluid and less predictable.

We have more options in our attack, while maybe we still lack some quality (among other things) when it comes to crossing.

There is probably much more to discuss, so knock yourselves out.

My vote so far: 7.

In the league we are exactly where we belong. We are not as good as Napoli and Juve but better than Roma, Milan and Lazio. So we are neither worse nor better than I expected. We did a great job in the champions league against great teams but made stupid mistakes and were really unlucky. Cant say much about the copa at this stage.

A "10" would mean we were much better than expected but we are exactly where we belong, so its a 7.5 from me.

Comparing to last seasons it's a 9. Mercato, financially, results and even performance wise.

Comparing to what Inter should be, it's a 5.

I think you've done more than was realistically expected. With half a team with below average players spaletti has done a great job.a couple of quality loan moves in Jan would do you good for that CL spot.

I agree with Matrix. In the league we're exactly where we deserve to be. In terms of quality we're close to Napoli but we're not at their level yet. In terms of results, we could and should have got more points in some matches (e.g. Torino, Parma, Chievo, etc.) but in others we could have dropped points as well (e.g. Milan, Spal). Despite the criticism Spalletti has received he also needs to be given credit for improving some of the players. Brozovic, Icardi, Joao Mario and even Dalbert are prime examples of this.

For me the real disappointment came in CL even though i didn't have high expectations after the draw. We were in the pot 4 and we ended up in a tough group. No one argues with that. But when you are 5 ponts ahead of third place after matchday 3 and 3 points after matchday 4 , then failing to qualify to the next round should be considered a failure. A deep run in EL, if not winning the trophy itself, could make up for it though.

So far a 7 for me as well.

Based on expectations from summer, I'd say it's an 8.

Based on expectations from late August, I'd say it's a 7.

Based on how we played and what we 'deserved', it's borderline 6 and 7, but that's results oriented, which is also what only counts most times.

We were pretty unlucky in the CL where Tottenham lucked out with +3 points vs PSV at the end (+1 in Holland and +2 in England) while they also got an unexpected +1 against Barcelona's heavy rotation and we fucked up on the final day at home. We were also 'unlucky' in Italy when we got robbed of 4 points at the beginning of the season (vs Sassuolo and Parma) and that we couldn't clinch the result against Torino, Roma and Chievo (+6 points) due to our inability to do so. What makes the season more disappointing is that the league remains fixed for a 5th year in a row and no one is allowed to stop this cheating dominance, so there's some bitterness around the club that's not due to our fault.

It's been a classic Inter rollercoaster ride, but at least it's a fancier one than what we've had in the better half of this decade and for the first time we can say without teasing ourselves that the future looks bright.
If we take the EL seriously and reach semis at least, while remaining top 3 in Italy, it's gonna be an 8. Also expect us to reach Coppa Italia final.

yeah how about bothering to give your opinion though.

I tend to think it is just the same old Inter. Nothing really changes significantly apart from a fact that we play in three competitions. Our mentality hasn't progressed well. Would give 6.5/10 so far. But, I hope for a shift in January-February for sure.

I haven't visited the forum for a few weeks now, but this thread is the place to make a few notes about our season and some players.

Crashing out of CL is the only disappointment, especially after having the start that we did. But then those matches showed us how big the gulf is between those teams and Inter. We barely beat PSV in the first leg, and couldn't even do that at home. Both Barca and Tottenham outclassed us in both legs. We got lucky late on in the first match against Tottenham but the 2nd one was nothing short of an embarrassment.

League wise, we have been okay. A few results should have been better, but being in 3rd spot and that too comfortably is a good reflection of us.

On the players, here are some thoughts -

Nainggolan - obviously a disappointment, hopefully he does better in 2nd half.

Skriniar - I'm disappointed that he hasn't scored yet, definitely expected more.

Lautaro - he needs more composure and be better aware of things. Converting that chance at the end against PSV could have made such a difference.

Asamoah - I wonder why he can't make even a basic pass with his right foot. So predictable..

De Vrij - He has been good, but doesn't come anywhere close to being a great defender. His decision making in the big matches like against Barca and others has already cost us.

Politano - He has been the biggest disappointment for me. This is in spite of not having high hopes. How can he never clear the first man when crossing or taking corners. How come his shots are so bad every single time. He does great in holding the ball, building up, making runs, but the end product is just terrible.

Keita - not much to say here. He isn't a winger, but can be better.

Brozovic - has been fantastic. Our best player in the first half of the season.

Handanovic - I think he has silenced a lot of critics this season.

Play wise, what we really miss is 1-2 midfielders. Midfielders who have a bit of trickery, vision and can help us hold the ball. More importantly, we need a midfielder who can deliver set pieces. This has to be addressed in winter mercato itself. It's sad that a team as big as ours has absolutely 0 threat from free kicks. Even our corners are so bad. For a team which has Icardi, Skriniar, De Vrij, and others like Vecino, Perisic and D'Ambrosio who are such a nuisance in the box, we have very few goals from corners. And the only way is to have someone better putting those balls in.

I think someone like Kroos would be the perfect player for us. I don't think he has the winner mentality, in spite of having won everything. It is also the result of being in a team where the others are more high profile than you. But in 90% of the matches, he would help us so much in those passes, deliveries and keeping the ball moving.

I rate 8/10

Because Nainggolan and Perisic not good.
They should be our the ones who carry us.

Icardi become Serie A Best Player.
Keita and J.Mario become good.

Napoli Ancelotti and Juventus Ronaldo are among the best in the world.
So i not stupid.. In reality, third position is fair for us.

But the stupid moment is when we can't defeat PSV at Meazza..
Typical Inter.

:eek:blivious: :eek:blivious:

Inter vs Barcelona = 1 - 1
Inter vs PSV = 1 - 1.

It's an 8 from my point of view. If we were able to qualify further in CL it would have been better. But it's not as "disastrous" as some people are wining here about. Considering the squad of Napoli and Juventus , a 3rd place is the best we could've hoped for.

Loosing 1-0 to Tottenham and drawing against PSV because we prefered to hope that Barca will win against Tottenham...that was really really embarrassing, ridiciolous. We had a good chance to qualify, a really good chance. I expected a lot of things but not this, really. That was only suicide from Inter.

In Serie A i expected to be at last second with Napoli. We are -5 from them but -7 from the fourth place, which is ok!

Considering our Midfield (Brozovic can't play every game and we dont have much good options there), Perisics form, Nainngolan problems at Inter... at the end, i still would give a 6 or 6,5, i dont think you can make much more with this players.

7 - position largely as expected although would have hoped that wouldn’t have been out of the title race at such an early stage of the season.

Might not be a popular opinion but I’d like to see a real challenge for the Europa League in the second half of the season. Appreciate it’s viewed as the poor man’s equivalent to the Champions League. However, it represented some of the best occasions for Inter during the 1990s, winning the trophy 3 times that decade and, with the title effectively out of reach, represents an opportunity for high-profile silverware.

Hard to say ... Two points less compared to last season, but I feel like we're playing better - at least we had no meltdown in December like last season. To bad we gave away so many points in our first four games or against Parma.

Champions league was bitter - I expected us to become third in our group, but after the first two games and until the last match day we had a big chance that we fucked up. The game against PSV was my "athletic" season low (didn't see our match against Atalanta).

But what hurts me even more was the behavior of some fans against Napoli and in the Nainggolan affair. For days we were very prominent in Austrian and German news papers and on sport sites - as racist and violent assholes. This shit will stick to us for many, many years.

7/10 (not included the reputational damage)
