tbh, i thought Benassi was our best midfielder yesterday.. Hernanes is good and is easily our best midfielder but is terribly selfish and tries to do everything by himself. He's basically a smarter version of Guarin.

Our struggles this season are to do with Mazzarri.

Eh. As far as I'm concerned that speaks louder about the abysmal state of our midfield than any particularly outstanding performances on Hernanes' part.

I say our midfield is so terrible because Mazzarri seems to be almost deliberately not using Kovacic / Taider and when your starting midfielders and first choice subs are Guarin and Kuzmanovic, it means your midfield is a joke.

Hernanes certainly hasn't been bad. It's refreshing to see someone take shots at goal which stay within a meter's range of the posts, whereas Guarin usually tends to miss by about 20 meters minimum. That being said, I'm still expecting more from Hernanes. He adds some much needed fluidity and technique to our midfield, but considering how skilled he is, I just don't think he's showing enough. Whether this is down to some tactical stifling from Mazzarri, or whether he's still finding his rhythm, I think I'll continue to be slightly underwhelmed until he really starts asserting himself over games.

Because we're so used to seeing Guarin's infinite strength in the midfield that it's all diluted us to believing that everyone else in comparison is just too weak.
