Crespo eyes second Scudetto
Inter striker Hernan Crespo believes repeating last season’s performances in Serie A will not be an easy task.
The Nerazzurri won their 15th Scudetto after a record-breaking campaign, finishing with a 22-point lead over second-placed Roma, who they will face on Sunday in the Italian Super Cup.
“I would be ready to sign up for a season like the last one, for me and for the team,” Crespo told Sky Italia.
“The term that has just ended was unique and extraordinary for us. We won by beating every record, no one had ever managed such a feat.
“We will try to win the Scudetto again this year, but fewer points might be required to do so,” added the Argentine international, who scored 14 Serie A goals last year.
“Our plan is to try and win to reach our objectives. We might not have done that well in our pre-season friendlies, but these matches don’t count for much in the end.
“A good start would give us the right mentality and winning the Super Cup could certainly be a message for the other teams too,” said the ex-Chelsea striker.
Crespo scored a decisive goal in last year’s Super Cup match against the Giallorossi, when Inter came back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 after extra time.
“I remember that goal, I came on in the second half and scored almost immediately. I am happy because the new season is about to start and we want to win the Super Cup on Sunday to start well like we did last year.
“Let’s just hope we play a better first half than we did last season,” explained the former Parma and Lazio hitman, who faces some stiff competition for a place in Inter’s starting XI this year..
“I am not afraid of the fact that there are many good strikers competing for a spot in the team, it is normal in a club which wants to stay at the top of world football.
“Last season taught us that you need everybody to get important results. By achieving the club’s objectives we will make sure everybody’s happy,” concluded Crespo.
