Either way this is silly, don't understand why you're getting defensive as if anyone cares about assists or whatever as if we're relegating quality in terms of such ridiculous Americanisms. Mkhitaryan having "an assist" or not has no impact on how he played.

I'd advise you to get accustomed to the culture of the sport instead of bringing such toxic simplicities to it.

I think the issue is that most of people here care when Asslani or Frattesi assist or score. But when Mhiki does that its like nothing. People care only when he has a bad game. This guy doesnt gets credit he deserves. To claim that he plays just cause Inzaghi loves him is so wrong. Thats why Dave is probably pissed

I'm not getting defensive. He has an assist. He put the pressure on goalie, and he had a last touch before Darmian scored. Not making it up any numbers and majority of sites credit him with an assist. That's all. But why are you keep trying to take that assist from him? That is baffling to me. I never say toxic things to any player. Say it was not Miki, but Barella or Hakan. Would I go to their threads to prove it was not an assist?

It’s not everywhere else. The reason why it’s showing as an assist in so many places is because those sites just copy WhoScored. Since the original site made an error, they’re all copying the error.

It's the typically last touch fallacy. An assist has to be an intended pass to a player who will take advantage of that pass and shoot. Any other methodology sits between too liberal or plain wrong.

There are data providers that claim a won free kick that goes directly in can be an assist. Or a PK won.
Ironically those same providers wouldn't give the taker an assist if he had won the kick

It’s absurd because it wasn’t either intentional or played out as a crucial pass creating a goal scoring opportunity, it was more random and didn’t really open much up. It’s also taking away when a player score in difficult, challenging or impossible positions still we constantly see assist being handed over in those cases although it never makes any sort of rational sense.

Personally assist is a bit dumb term in football as chances are created often after a series of passes, runs and plays, given credit to one player when there been several others in the whole build up is kinda ridiculous.

Also assists say nothing about how a player has played, you can be absolutely rubbish for 88min and create two assists.
