Goal Scorers and Assist-Men

Can we simply agree on a compromise with regards to the situation here? Rather than listing the player who assisted the goal, we could simply create a category for the player who last touched the ball before the one who scored?

It doesn't necessarily connote an assist; however, it fulfils the desire of MasterZen to collate a list of scorers and assist-men (in their myriad definitions).

So what say you, Frisko?

Oh and, will you guys please stop fighting over something so trivial?

I really think Figo should be the assist for that second own goal

Figo clearly tried to pass to Crespo, not to the defender. If the defender didn't do it, it would have been offside by a mile. Actually it was offside even now, because Crespo didn't walk away from the situation but came closer to the goal to be available for the pass. Figo wouldn't have passed if Crespo wasn't there. So Crespo was active in that moment and affected to the play. But, that rule is stupid and should'n be there at all.

Figo didn't assisted the goal, own goals don't have assisters.

I would just like to know who helped that we scored goal. So that we will see at end of season who really made some plays which led to the goal.

I'm just trying to play peacemaker here - so far, my efforts have been for naught.

We ought to start a new thread with universal rules voted on by the forum members. That way, we can achieve a majority ruling on what constitutes an assist. Either that, or we accept Frisko's definition.

As for this thread I completely understand that this is your thread, I just think that, this is a forum and we can discuss these sort of thing. Of course as always these discussions must be done in a civilized manner. However, I am glad to see that you are open to this form of discussions. Lets hope they can continue in this vein.
