Leverkusen has done well in the last 4 years with the signings of André Schürrle, Dani Carvajal, Emre Can, Hakan Calhanoglu, Son Heung-min, Ömer Toprak, Julian Brandt, Josip Drmic, Karim Bellarabi, Wendell, Bernd Leno and this seasons signings; Ramalho, Jedvaj, Papadoupolos, Mehmedi and Tah.
Then add Christoph Kramer and Levin Öztunali as home grown players.
Ömer Toprak is 25 years old and the rest of them are younger. Some of them have already been sold with great profit (Schürrle, Can and Carvajal) and others are already rumored to way bigger clubs (Calhanoglu, Son and Brandt). Their transfer strategy clearly indicates that developing young players doesn't mean you can't be competitive in your domestic league as they are participating in the qualification rounds for the CL this season. Then add the potential amounts they will receive by selling some of their players and you have a financially healthy club.
