Is it even possible to finish this story in 2 books.

Martin likes his small time jumps. If he edits his work a bit, it could work.

But yeah, Winds of Winter would have the Baelor Sept blowing up, a huge Meereen battle and Battle of the Bastards. And Samwell in Oldtown. And Dany finally going back to Westeros. And fAegon & Jon Connington getting a pact with Dorne and attacking King's Landing. The big north conspiracy.

Ok maybe all this can't fit in.

Heard that HBO offered them a full 10-episode season but they turned it down. Seems like GOT is no longer their main thing, and they are trying to finish it quickly so they can move onto other stuff. It would explain the terrible pacing, poor character development, and the careless contradictions.

HBO reportedly offered them a pay rise and money for more seasons but D&D said they could finish the story in 13 episodes. I think we can all agree that they were wrong and season 7 and 8 needed to have 10 episodes each.

Unfortunately for us D&D have rushed the ending to the biggest show on TV so they can run off and make some shitty Star Wars movies that nobody wants.

Well at least they want to do it because money. There is too many stupid SW fans out there that will eat everything the franchise shits out.

SW is already ruined, so they won't be getting any shit from anyone about it. Because they ruined GoT and lots of people are shitting on them. It's the smart move, like it or not.

Btw, I don't think they didn't have the time, because, if they skipped a whole year to do the last season, they must've thought they'd make it better. The reason is not having the source material Martin has written. They executed his story just fine, but they can't do they own.

Btw, only for books: If they ever are done, (in which I don't believe anymore), we at least know that Aegon is really fake, or, if not fake, a catalyst for other characters in the story, Dany will get crazy, Jon will rise from death, Cersei and Jaime are going to die together. I think that George told all this is his way of ending to the show creators, and they did what they did with it.

Still I predict, just like before this season: Jon is king of Westeros, but rules from Winterfell. For the rest, have no clue.

I wonder what happens to Mance Rayder. Maybe he is the one who goes back to North, and not Giantsbane.

Some cool shots for sure, but meh. I think they built up a story so complex that it was impossible to finish in the time they gave themselves.

I thought this was a solid 7/10. As much as I wanted Jon Snow to be king he never wanted that role. Him killing Dany was pretty sad. He gave her chance after chance to change her mind, and he just couldn't get her to flip.

The ironic thing is long ago, Bran the Builder was the King of the North, and Aegon Targeryen sat on the Iron Throne, and now their roles got reversed. This generation's Bran sits on the Iron Throne, while Aegon Targaryen (Jon Snow) becomes the "King" of the North. I wonder if GRRM planned this from the start, but the show didn't really build on it.

So Jon's true heritage and all that was as meaningless as Icardi's penalty last night.

and how the fuck is Bran all of a sudden cool with being a normal person and a king on top of that. Dude didn't wanna be lord of Winterfell 2 episodes ago! Now he say he came all the way to be the king...? yeah right.

Fuck this show.

PS: I feel so betrayed that I don't get to find out dafuq those spirals meant after all

It's still unclear if Bran can see the future or not. If he knew everything all along it puts him in Dr. Strange position of Endgame. Kind of ruins it for me, the whole time-travel back-and-forth is simply not my thing.

As for the rest of the episode, it's a fitting end to a disappointing season. I'm glad it's over and won't lose any time thinking about alternative scenarios and endings (hopefully).

So that bitch Sansa gets exactly what she wants, which is to be queen in the north. Fuck her.

Arya fucks off to explore the world like a Christopher Columbus.

Dany dies and the dragon flies off with her body, never to be seen again. OK.

John eats a dick by receiving a life sentence at the nights watch. But there's obviously peace made between the wildlings and the northerners, and the Night King and all the zombies are dead. So what purpose does the Night's Watch even serve? Tyrion states "the world will always need a home for bastards and broken men." So essentially the Night's Watch is a prison for undesirables, just like Australia, just like it was at the beginning. But now the prisoners don't even serve a purpose due to the lack of any threat, so they're just serving time. Then at the end, what, he runs away from his sentence by relocating north of the wall to live among the cavemen? Seems legit.

Bran becoming king was somewhat predictable but I'm OK with it. What I'm not OK with is that the prick barely says anything which isn't some vague philosophic bullshit. Obviously I understand the need for 'compelling' dialogue, but no one in this dipshit show is capable of having a rational conversation. Fuck Bran, useless prick.

Grey Worm takes the unsullied to Missandei's birthplace to do what exactly, conquer the place? live out their days in peace on a tropical island? What happened to the Dothraki? Do they just settle peacefully into King's Landing and the rest of Westeros?

Whatever. As Lui said, the show runners bit off more than they could chew in wrapping up the story well in the time period they (unnecessarily) placed upon themselves.

At least this episode was better than "Game of Inter", Season 2018/19, Episode 37. Now that was a fucking dogshit episode.

My issue is the show went from a show where the character motivations and action always could almost always be explained and understood, to a show where so much from this season either were rushed to the point where the characters actions felt forced, or simply made no sense? Why would all those nobles really want the weird kid who stares at trees, knows everything, yet mostly does nothing to be King? Especially given that his motives and actions are still completely unknown to all of them. Not only that but then stand by that decision when he just gives the north to his sister?

Sam said Drogon was seen heading to Volantis, the very same place that Kinvara the red priestess is from. So that means Dany is getting resurrected in Season 9 :yao:

What about Bran?
For real. He was a character who possessed so much power and wisdom, yet most of it was implied off-screen. So disappointing.

Indeed. I guess GoT was infamous for killing off important characters, but it wasn't the spontaneity or surprise that made it good, it's that the characters got the consequences we would expect to happen. (Joffrey is a bloodthirsty cunt who hates Starks --> Ned dies). Not so much anymore.

You can also tell just by how unsubtle and forced the dialogue has become. Ex.
-Varys straight up asks Jon if he will commit treason (and after telling Tyrion he will do so)
-No build-up to Tyrion choosing Bran for a king, and then everyone just rolling with it
-Daenerys literally saying "I know what is good" in the most ham-fisted way possible

Bran's "election" also seems very sloppy. As Shaun points out, why is everyone else okay with a crippled and possibly hallucinogenic Stark taking over while the Starks themselves secede? For that matter why are Dorne and the Iron Islands not jumping ship like Winterfell?

(And why is Bronn on the council???)

I've known to expect this for a week because of the leaks but it still got me how blunt and unsatisfying it was.
