Just because you say it shit doesnt make it so. Look at the European results in the last few years. Russian, Swedish and Croatian among others have been eliminated by Irish clubs.
Also pretty shit leagues. Russian league probably the best of them, but still a long way away from a top European league.
So you pick one game you have seen on tv (the only way you watch football) and you decide its shit?
Response to the bit in bold: Did you not read my earlier posts where I clearly said that I've been to Milan to see Inter games and that I've also been at quite a few League of Ireland games. And I have been to 3 Premier League games as well. So I don't just watch soccer on tv.
While I walk around Ireland I like to play a game called "Spot the barstooler who knows nothing about the game". Pretty easy as they will wear the jersey of whatever foreign club has won their domestic league. They will air their opinions which are laughable and completely ignorant as they have never seen a live game.
Not all fans who wear jerseys of foreign champions have laughable and ignorant views. Just because some of them haven't seen a game live doesn't mean their opinion is irrelevant.
You seem to think that to have a relevant opinion you have to go games, although I go to games and you ignored some of my opinions. Maybe you only consider opinions relevant when they are in agreement with you.
When they go to the pub to cheer on their foreign club they will see plenty of long balls and balls in the air but will conveniently ignore this as all foreign football is great because the commentator says so.
Of course there will be long balls, they happen in every match. Its the frequency at which they happen and the play in between them which differentiates quality leagues from crap ones, such as the Airtricity League.
Most people regularly give out about football pundits and commentators for being clueless and talking shite. Maybe children believe every word they say but the majority of football fans don't.
Wont be watching the match on RTE tonight as I will be at supporting my club in my home town something you lot know nothing about.
So continue "supporting" your club through your tv set and keep imagining the players can hear you.
You havent a clue about the game or football culture.
I've been to my local League of Ireland club before, they're defunct now. My home town of Athy and the town I live in now, Carlow, don't have any clubs which play at professional or semi-professional level. So I guess I can blame this one on being geographically handicapped.
I will continuing supporting my team through the tv, until I have enough money saved to go see them live again. I rather go see 4 or 5 quality football games a year than witness 30 odd shite ones in the flesh.
We might not know as much as you do about the Irish game or Irish football culture, but hey are we really missing much?
You completely ignore someone when their point doesn't fit into your ideology. You asked does anyone actually go to Inter games. I had the following response:
I've been 3 times to see Inter in the last year, vs Palermo last April, vs Barcelona in September and vs Chelsea in February. I know Interista Gallese has been 3 or 4 times as well. You can't accuse us of being barstoolers.
You are dealing with real Inter fans, who live in Ireland and go to the games in Milan. There is nothing you can say that will make me believe that I am not a real Inter fan.
Your response: nothing.
You asked me if I supported an Irish club and I told you that I used to go to Kildare County games.
I used to go to Kildare County games up and down. I'd say I seen them play maybe 20 times, never a regular but I went. I never had any great affection for them, the standard of football in the league was terrible and probably still is. It was more for something to do on a Friday or Saturday evening.
Inter are my first team then Liverpool, I don't have any support left to give after that, especially not to the shitty Airtricity League.
Your response: nothing.
We can slag off the league because it is shit, sure Roy Keane came from the League of Ireland, as did a lot of current and ex Irish internationals. Talent will always come through poor leagues. The good players will move onto bigger and better leagues, whats left behind is not up to the standard.
How many players have earned Irish caps in the last ten years whilst still playing in the league of Ireland?
Jason Byrne, Glen Crowe, Wes Hoolohan, I can't think of any after that, there prob is a few more but not many I suspect.
I would say less than 5% of all the caps earned were by League of Ireland players.
You also completely ignored this part of my last post. Where is your response to this???
Instead you focus on the part of my post where I was basically poking fun at the league. I was clearly taking 2 games in isolation. But I challenge you to do the same and the results will be the same time and time again. The Airtricity League has a poor quality of football. Most teams have little or no technical or tactical skills, something which is clearly evident, even to barstoolers.
