I don't care if he gets sent off a few times this season as his leadership will end up winning the side more games in the long run. The team is and has been lacking leadership, but Melo goes a long way to fixing that.

I don't believe Melo is such a powerful influence on/off the field that he can singlehandedly push our side to win games. So far, it's clear he gives our team a lot of confidence but it doesn't go that far. If anything, leadership is only useful long term in a season because of consistency and composure under pressure, but those are the exact questions I have about Melo.

I don't think a single figure is that important when a side has a core of players who have an inherent drive to win and strong mental fortitude ala our treble winning side. However, with a side like ours that seemed to have the collective mental fortitude of Alzheimers patient I think a player like Melo makes a big difference

Can't disagree that his attitude and confidence makes a difference in our team right now. We badly need him to be consistent. I still don't think we would lose games long term without his attitude but whatever. And if we can't consistently win games without his fight then we have much bigger Strama-esque problems.

I think having him in the team over the course of the season will be huge for the young guys. The older players are already "set in their ways", but the younger players who are still learning like Kondogbia can take a lot from Melo's mentality. Winning a header with such verocity that you break someone's cheekbone and and then screaming in their face as if you won the league in the 88th minute of a regular league match is something the young guys will pick up on.

If playing next to Melo helps Kondogbia develop some heart like that, it'll be worth having him for that alone.

He lost the ball several times in the midfield, which shouldn't happen to a DM.

He does recover possession but he does lose it in a stupid manner as well.

Not only did he lose possession he was too slow on several accounts. Its a shame..We need to be looking from now for someone to take over for next year.

he was never a long-term replacement... one year, maybe two tops. But he's one of the few on-field player of starting quality over 30 (besides Miranda), and his presence is needed even if he flops.

Inter Music Show, Season 2, Felipe Melo (nominated by Guarín):

10) Quem è Deus - Diante Do Trono
9) Es port ti - Juanes
8) Para tu amor - Juanes
7) Confessions - Usher
6) A cançao do amor - Ana Paula Valadao
5) O Hino - Fernandinho "Before the match I always hear this performer, I like him a lot. It's music that touches your soul" (I think all the songs he says in portuguese are like christian songs, but I'm not sure ???)
4) Aint no sunshine - Bill Withers "I like a lot this singer, I heard this song in Las Vegas, it's beautiful".
3) Corazon partido - Alejandro Sans "I love his song, he sings really beautiful songs and the lyrics are nice. When I got married, I sang this song for my wife. Will be forever in my heart".
2) Babe can I hold you - Tracy Chapman "I like it so much, it's the kind of song you can dedicate to your girlfriend, to your wife. When my wife and I used to leave afar, I sent her this music. It's really beautiful".
1) Fast car - Tracy Chapman "This also makes me remember my wife, when we started going out together, I sent her roses and a CD with this song".

Then he says that outside the pitch he is really different, he is a father and a husband... And he nominates Dodô to do the next one...

You like Mayan mythology?

And agreed. Melo is just a quick fix until we find somebody younger.

Considering recalls for Kaka, Oliveira etc surely he has a chance to return for Brazil? Considering some of the absolute dross they use in the midfield.

Kind of off topic but I don't understand how Brazi hasn't given a chance to Allan or tried to steal back Jorginho. Those players would do so much for their midfield its not even funny

Absolutely Allan especially has played for the Brazil youth teams so they must have some idea of him. Especially when they are calling up proven mediocrity like Elias.

Well Imho the Brazil squad selection has been very weird for years now! The last time i think i fully agreed with the selected players of WC Brazil squad was in 2002 and back then they had sooo fucking much talent it s not even funny. I m not sure if it s because the fans want to see players that still play in brazil or whats the reason for this but it has been like this for a long time now.

Also the same can be sad about the Argentina squads there always seems to be at least one player starting the seems odd and for whom i think they have better options.

I know some people here weren't really impressed with his performance yesterday but I think he did good. Defensively he was very strong and his passing although never incisive was consistent and safe. He sure knows how to do the dirty work. Loved how pumped he was yesterday after 3 or 4 of our players lunged to block and call and we stopped it.
