This is the most natural fit imaginable.

Agreed. I believe that's what Spaletti is doing with playing M. Olivera as a left-back over Mario Rui for most CL matches, while Mario Rui typically starts in Serie A. In addition, the cheap fouls these players tend to win in Serie A usually don't work in CL, and I'd much rather have Gosens' physicality and superior defense.Gosens should start in UCL match. Dimarco can get away in Serie A where not many teams employ pacy tricky winger. In continental matches, his exquisite crossing skill means nothing when opponents' wingers keep skipping past him easily.
But i thought he should always start because of his playmaking skills
Yeah, he has to, because Gosens is a level below Dimarco these days. He was consistently very good this season, so as long as he doesn't turn to complete shit, he must remain as a starter because we don't have better solution for that role.
Besides, he was our key player. Our game was purely based on his flank and most of times he was directly or in-directly decisive in majority of matches.
Falling down and crying for a foul just before the Porto double chance was enough reason for even his mother to sub him off.
Do we have a better solution to Dimarco? If so, then of course I'm all up for it.No, he shouldn't because he's shit defensively. This isn't a problem against shitters in Serie A but it's a huge issue at top stage. If Onana hadn't made the double save this thread would have been on fire and rightly so.
Defensively? We have a far superior in Gosens and it showed last night. Dimarco is great when we face Serie A teams who sit back and defend and there are no spaces. But in the top games it should be Gosens starting.
