This could sound naive, but can't we enclose $5 U.S. in an envelope and send it overseas???

I think the whole idea of you guys chipping in with money should be talked about as soon as we have established security and is positive about the future. I wouldn´t be able to live with myself if the whole forum went down when so many people have paid money.

It´s of course a great gesture, but personally for my own conscience, I see it as a project when the future is secure. Handoyo is stinking rich, so the server issue is financially in order (or so he says :D).

it's forbidden..., but it may work :)
if someone has a us checkin account, they can make a chashier check and send it...,
we dont have such a thing with ordinary bank account in indonesia...

I actually have tried that (I dont remember it well), I insert the money in to my thick letters to conceal it... I'll probably wil do this...

When did I say I was stinking rich? ;) I said that the financial situation for the server is stable. :D I just think that you know, I am fortunate enough to have an able family and I can afford to pay the server bills and if I feel that I'm not squeezing myself, why would I ask my friends to shoulder any liability? :) And of course, like Jimmy said, it's already a huge burden for us with all these problems. We feel bad for you guys. Can you imagine our feelings if you guys actually paid us, and then these problems keep coming up? :scared:

But of course, if you guys insist to help out, it's pretty much possible. The easy ways to send donations would be through PayPal or just enclose a money in an envelope. I've heard that it's illegal but if they can't find out that money is enclosed, it can't be illegal. ;););) So, what you have to do is actually to also put some paper inside the envelope, preferably black or dark coloured ones and then send them. :D

For my part I would be willing to pay money in case we had to MOVE away from this place. Donating money for other purposes is simply something I haven´t thought of until now.

So in case an exodus became the last resort for us I would be willing to crank up cash. The issue for me remains shipment which I know squat about.

If it´s legal to send money by mail overseas I can guarantee you I wouldn´t hesitate a second, guys.

Ha, I never knew that sending me money in an envelope was illegal and that it can be confiscated!!! I guess my wife was right to say that all those years she never saw the moeny i claimed i sent, i guess she was honest for once. :D

I think another way for us is through Western Union. I know that they have branches all over the world and they only take a small percentage from the money transferred. Something to think about.

This is all preliminary and we will wait for what happens. Also, members shouldn't think that i am blabbing because i am rich or something because i am not, i don't even have a job yet. I think all of us can save $5-10 over a period of time and can send it to the forum. I really felt bored and sad when the forum was down and i don't want that to happen again.

Hamed, you have a wife?:shock:

Yeah, Western Union is another good way. But one thing you have to make sure though is the fee they're gonna charge. I am not sure how much but if the fees is higher that the amount of money transferred itself...

I wish.   :cry2: :cry2: :cry2: Sometimes I over-fantacize and believe that I have one, I think I posted that reply during one such episode. :p

I think Western Union takes a percentage of the money transferred, I've used it about three times and I think they took a small percentage, like 5% or so.

If time comes and we have to send money, then i'd make sure how much they charge and i will even post their website where you can locate a branch near you.

He had a wife until she spent a magical night with yours truly :p

Also, I agree that Western Union is definetley the way to go if the admins and Super Han decide to get a new host, Although my canadian money will probably be of little use :p

This is all hypothetical, but little money will go a long way. I think we might have around 20 members or so who are willing to pay. I don't know the exact amount of money needed but it could be managable.

There are also other ways to force members to pay, like blackmail. I think we developed some intimate knowledge of some members and we can threaten to expose them to their parents if they don't pay. :D Or give away their e-mails and names to spammers and e-mail ad agencies.

The list is long and all can be done, so in case we have to move, PREPARE TO PAY OR ELSE. :fero: :fero: :fero:

I'd love to help by donating some money, but the problem is I don't know how to. I don't have paypal, my parents will never let me use their credit cards. And I can't possible send you guys the money by mail, can I?

Jupiter, you can always meet me in real life. :D:p:D:p:D:p

I don't know how much does it cost to have vBulletin as a software. I tried going to the website and everything is Greek to me. Here's the website.

If we can receive a sufficient amount of donation, around US$50 or so, we can definitely upgrade to vBulletin. :star: I think me and Jimmy has discussed such a move before (Before we realise how damn expensive it was. :D) and I think it is possible to transfer this forum, which is in phpBB, to vBulletin. Hence, I don't think any post will be lost.

As far as the server exodus is concerned, we will inform you guys in the future. :)

Err... You mean you have a credit card/paypal, Han? If that is so, then maybe it's a possibility. :)

But my mom says not talk to strangers. :D

About vBulletin:

"Leased License - $85

A leased license grants you the right to run vBulletin on one web server and one web site for each license purchased for 1 year from the date of order. Each license may power one instance of vBulletin on one domain. During the year, you will have unlimited access to the member area, where you can download updated versions of the software. At the end of the year, you must purchase another license in order to continue to run vBulletin.

Owned License - $160

An owned license grants you the right to run vBulletin on one web server and one web site for each license purchased for an unlimited time. Each license may power one instance of vBulletin on one domain. Included in this package is one year's access to the member area, where you can download updated versions of the software. If you require access to the member area after the year has elapsed, you can renew your access for $30 per year."

So leased license will work for one year and then you have to pay another $85. Owned license works for good, but you can update the software only for a year, but for an extra $30/year you can get the updates too.

Calculation:

Leased license

1 year: $85
2 years: $180
3 years: $265

Owned license:

1 year: $160
2 years: $190
3 years: $220

Owned license will be cheaper in the long run, but then there's a risk that there might be more advanced software available after a year or two. Owned license also requires more money in the beginning, though in the following years is much easier to get the money collected. I'd say the owned license is a better choice.

It's no problem for me to give a contribution of $15 or $20, as long as it's ok to mail cash...

Thanx for the info Jake, it's important to research before you do anything. The owned license thing sounds good to me. This website has to be as reliable as it's popular.

The final decision is up to the admins, but I am glad to help if the decision comes to moving the server.

The prices were just for the vBulletin software. The server thing is another thing.

So, to make a concrete start to the idea, I think we should list out the number of donations that you guys are willing to make. If it reaches US$ 50, as I said, it is very possible to purchase the superior vBulletin software. If you guys can commit and promise to donate again this time around next year, we can even get a 2-year-plan from vBulletin!

About the server, as I've said, I can still afford paying it (Not forgetting Jimmy's contribution too of course. :star:) and worry not about that. For now, let's concentrate improving the forum's software, not ensuring the stability for the server's bill because it is very stable. :)
