Yeah I heard Shearer could be up for it too, I also heard Houlier  I would feel sorry for Newcastle fans if that happened. I think that Shearer would prob prefer an assistant coaching role, although he is on tv a lot so maybe that's where he is headed.

ManU bought Rooney for about €37 million. :dielaugh:

Am i the only one who thinks Rooney is highly overrated? Few goals against Switzerland and Croatia in WC and suddenly he´s a wonderkid.

From Gazzetta:

Ufficiale: Rooney al Manchester United

Visite mediche effettuate. All'Everton 37 milioni di euro?

This is great move for Manchester United. Rooney will be big now, under Ferguson. Expect him to be not only a star.

The thing about Rooney is that he's fast but also strong. And he's very committed, even too much since he gets his good share of yellow and red cards. He's confident, a great player really. With Ruud up there they can smash up defences like tanks! :D

Screw you all over, Sherif Zaki! :finger::embarass: I am completely wrong since I thought that Rooney would stay in Everton until December or next summer because I thought the clubs would want to see if he's just a flash in the pan and whether Rooney is able to re-produce his Euro 2004 for a football club. Well, I'm wrong about this and the Owen transfer. :embarass: But I'm right about the Vieira one.

With the current market, I feel that 37 million Euros is way too much. Rooney only has one good season (And he wasn't even a starter) for Everton and a good Euro 2004. His Euro 2004 is not as fantastic as what the press made it out to be. 4 goals against Switzerland and Croatia, albeit a good, is not an out-of-this-world feat.

Man Utd already has RVN, Saha and Smith. When needed, Scholes can move forward and play as a support forward in a 4-4-1-1 formation. Although I am never impressed by Saha, Alan Smith has been scoring for fun for Man Utd since the start of his career and now he must be wondering what else must he do to win the place in the starting line-up!

All in all, I wouldn't be too happy with the signing. The fee is bloated and it could & should have been used to reinforce different departments. For example, the central of defence.

EDIT: They should have gotten a certain Brazillian magician with Saha's and Rooney's transfer money. ;)

Rooney is way overated. He is a good player but obviously not wortht
the amount ManU is about to pay for him.
For his own sake he should have stayed another season at Everton and then moved to a bigger club.

I don't agree Javier, Rooney is going to be big, straight away. You'll see. The guy is so confident that he won't be scared of the big challenge.

This is the first page of ManUtd.com today:

Rooney-ManUtd.gif

They just can't wait to see him in action! :)

Rooney is a good player but Man U payed too much and they already have Saha, VNR and Smith. Who is gonna sit on the bench? It will be interesting to see how Fergie handles it, I reckon Smith and Saha will miss out.

I might go back to supporting Man U because of this. Only when Keane is out though... ;)

ok guys i am back and personally i am not in the "perfect" mood to go into debates with ppl here..:D

-Is the transfer value too much?
Yes

-Did we have another choice?
No

-Will Utd earn back the money from profits in no time?
Hell yeah

-Is Han talking some ultra bollox about buying a central defender?
Rio, Heinze, Brown, Silvestre and O'shea then i guess he is big time.

-Is Rooney overrated?
No

-Why are some people comparing him to Martins?
I dont know

-Is Rooney the next Pele and Maradona?
No No No

-Can Rooney have a similar fate like the one experienced by both George Best and Norman Whiteside?
Everything is possible

-Will Rooney have an impact straight away?
I dont think so

-Will he have the impact after some time?
Yes

-Will I buy a Rooney shirt?
Damn right i will

-Am I excited?
I am experiencing goosebumps all over

-Will Rooney play as a lone striker?
No he will play behind the striker

-Who will be the striker?
ALAN SMITH

-And what about Ruud?
When he is fully fit he will play and Smith will be behind him

-Does this means that Smith will not be out?
Never

-Saha?
He is a good sub

-Is Arsenal the best team playing football in Han eyes?
Man since when did you start watching football

-What did Arsne Wenger say about Rooney?
The best kid around and i wish i could have him, but he is probably going to Utd.
We cant argue with Arsene, eh? :dielaugh:

-Did Rooney had just one good season with the Toffees?
No, he had an impact against us when he had his debut. This game we won 3-0 and Schoels scored a screamer. Rooney played the last 8 mins and was everywhere. He had a brilliant season and last season was a good one too. All in all he had almost 40 starts and scored 15 goals. Not a bad record with such a team.

-Is Zlatan worth half the money Juve paid?
No

-People always talk about transfer values, etc...What do you have to say to them Marco?
Get a life

-Will Rooney emerge as a Utd hero?
Cant think of otherwise

-What did i gain from all this?
At last i agree with Frisko on something

Conclusion:
The money paid was too much but all clubs ask more money from big clubs. This always happen to Utd. So why dont you people just relax and lay back.

I don't like Man U, this could change now since they are getting players that i like (Alan Smith), but they are financially so stable. They can afford to do a bad deal and get away with it. The Rooney deal for them is a win-win, more exposure and more talent. Players like that don't come alot, he really changed my mind about him at Euro04.

I wish they focused more on their playmaking department since they were already covered up front.

Rooney and Martins are different. Rooney is stronger, he can protect the ball better. Martins is quicker, and I would say more deadly when he's 1 to 1 with the keeper.

I get his stats from a local Indonesian newspaper so I don't know how reliable it is but:

Rooney 70+ starts 21 goals
Martins 37 games (I don't know if the number he play as a sub also counted) 14 goals

Do the math!

Han my man, your information is not all correct. Rooney played 67 games in the league, 27 of them as a sub. This makes his starts = 40. I dont really care about the cup competitions.

So 40 games and 15 goals is not bad at all, and you cant compare him to Martins. Why?
-Rooney played most of last season and the 2nd part of the season before in midfield and guess what, his performances were the best when he played there. Martins never played in midfield.

-Send Martins to Everton, play him in midfield and lets see how will he operate there. On the other hand, send Rooney to Inter and lets see how will he do among our players whom are 18938319438 times better than the Toffees.

Again we shouldnt compare them together. No one actually did ever try to compare them except the Inter fans and it all started after the stupid British media compared him to Pele, etc..

ManU and Chelsea draw while the Arsenal train just keeps on rolling no matter who the opponent is...Now Arsenal without looking back is two points ahead of Chelsea and ManU just keep on slumping.

ManU arent just slumping they are getting desparate i think by putting in Van the Man straight into the game after his injury shows how Sir Alex doesnt have as much faith in the team as he once had no matter who was out...I definately thought ManU would have a slow start this year, but maybe didnt think it will be this bad, they always finish strong but this start might cost them alot this year...Hope to see some challenge for Arsenal on the title.

Arsenal havent lost any point untill now and if things go this way they might not loose any game this year too,but i still think Spurs will be the first team to capture any points from them, whether one point or hopefully three.

Did anyone see the calamity that was the Man U defence yesterday? It was shocking for the second Bolton goal, I dunno what has happened to them.
