So did every other team.

No but seriously they were ACTUALLY in contention everyone else just had a shit season except Arsenal and Tottenham. They choked. The one time the big boys were all out of it Arsenal STILL managed to fail. I don't consider Utd, City, Liverpool, Chelsea etc choking that season it was just a really bad season for everyone, it happens to everyone. But Wenger failed to deliver the easiest title chance he had in the last 10 years.

Btw is it awful that even though I've lived in England my whole life but I still can't spell Leicster? Like wth spelling is usually a strong point for me, I'm an aspiring writer ffs

Just a random thought that I've noticed about the EPL. All the top clubs have foreign managers. There are also only 5 English managers in the entire league.

Well it's a pretty well known fact English managers tend to be pretty rubbish. Correct me if I am wrong here, I am not that familiar with English managers.

Can you name some top English managers who can match the traditional world class tactician in Italy?

(it's a genuine question, I'd like to know).

Bobby Robson is really the only one came to mind. SAF is considered foreign and non English correct?

I'm sure it's either Clough or Paisley.

Not EPL but English league. It's Howard Wilkinson for Leeds in 91-92.

After that it's Scottish domination.

They shit on Scotland and Scottish managers ruled the football in PL.

Most iconic English clubs are Liverpool and ManUtd, both are what they are today because of Scottish managers. SAF, Matt Busby, Shankly.

Well it is pretty damn difficult to become a good coach if the better teams from your own country don't want to give you a fair chance in terms of developing your coaching skills. Which takes time. The pressure on each club due to TV and relegation/promotion money of the Premier League makes it a harsh environment and not a suitable place for younger coaches to develop. Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe are both great examples of how important it is for younger coaches in the beginning of their careers to have a stable job for the first many seasons. The same goes with the high amount of foreigners not just in terms of head coaches but as well in other staff positions.

Another factor is culture. Not that many former English national team players have tried to start a coach career compared to for example Italians. It is a big advantage to have had a great career as a footballer at a high level. Otherwise will you have to study a lot and at the same time start from the bottom by being an assistant and by coaching different youth and reserve teams. Studying is not just about receiving a coaching license but as well being inspired by being dedicated to learn new stuff from actual situations. Take Brendan Rodgers as an example. He went the hard way as he didn't play football at a high level. He spend a lot of time studying different tactical ideas by travelling around in Spain and Italy for a long period of time. Which he combined with his coaching jobs as a youth coach at Reading and Chelsea. We can argue about how well a coach he is but that isn't my point. My point is that I believe that way too few Englishmen are becoming great coaches because they don't get inspired by how things are being done outside England. They stay back home in England instead of learning and get inspired by other ideas from the outside. Just as we see with their footballers.

The coaches from england who were top tier footballers seem to have it in their heads that they should be able to take over PL teams based off of their talents as a Footballer. Few of them actually bother doing it the proper way by getting experience of it at low league levels or through the youth academies. IIRC it was Sol Campbell or another former arsenal player who wanted a job at a PL club but nobody was willing to take him on because it would be an insane risk

I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this but according to many sources Steven Gerrard is close to become the next Glasgow Rangers coach. I can't say i was expecting that. Especially since it was rumoured Gerrard was a Celtic fan.
