Yeah, he was Manutd player and after very soon joined ManUtd coaching staff. He was reserves coach very long back. For more than 15 years he was with first team.

Since Carlos Quieroz left in 2008 he was our assistant manager. Wouldn't say he was highly rated as he was assistant manager after Carlos Quieroz, so sort of underwhelming appointment.

People always questioned what is he good at but I would trust Fergie, if he wasn't of much use he wouldn't have been SAF's assistant manager.

Their manager was Steve Bruce who was also former ManUtd player and captain (one of the very successful captains) and he left the job few weeks back. He was interviewed for England job and after that not sure what happened behind the scenes but he left. Phelan was then promoted as care taker manager.

Now not sure whether he is appointed permanently or just care taker.
