If a coach fields a team that can't play together and pulls out an offensive midfield for a defender, and tells the players to kick long balls and leaves out strikers from the squad, you can't blame lampard and gerrard, can you?

the reason why they long ball is because the players can't play short passes very well even in the premiership these players play long ball except for ashley cole with arsenal where they try to pass the ball in to the net. english style of play is to play the long ball where a tall player heads it down for a short player to shoot. so don't blame sven, sven is not the culprit it's the players.

Its so obvious to see even someone like you should appreciate SGE is to blame for this. He offers no inspiration to the players who follow his lead on the pitch. How many times have we seen players like Terry and Gerrard behave like a ferosios lions when they play for there clubs, but for England have no commitment and passion. Too many for me.

He picks four strikers, two of them were injured, one have obvious talent (Walcott) but wont play him and another one who is in the form of his life but then drops him. Its just pathetic. Like Keir says given his wages, surley he can find a way to make Lamps and Gerrard play better, but ohh no he cant do it.

Man, deep-playmakers like Carrick and Pirlo are the most overrated thing in soccer. When will coaches realize how one-dimensional these guys are!

Deep playmaker is a very unique position and few can master it. Unless you are outrageously talented like Redondo or Guardiola, a deep playmaker should realize that he shouldn't expect to play for the NT (unless they have the same midfield around him.)

Down here, and to all the Sky Sports/ITV/BBC commentators, if England or an EPL club do it, it's "kick & rush" or "fantastic end-to-end stuff" but if Italy or a Serie A club do it, it's "boring and defensive" or "snorefest Catenaccio."
