Well...

Sneijder had done a full pre-season with Real. And it was the start of the season so everyone is lacking match fitness a bit. Now a lot of players are coming in to their peak for the season, and Shaqiri is behind on that. He SHOULD have had a debut today so we could assess him in a match, and if he impressed like Podolski last week, been given a start.

As is, we'll see. I doubt very much we'll start him blind, though.

Even 'when' he was shit he was still showing good movement and running a lot. It's everything else that suffered. His passing was atrocious, his shooting was atrocious, his touch was atrocious. Him scoring two tap-ins will hopefully help his confidence, but for me it's simply not enough to safely say that a full year of bad form is officially over.

thought he was good all round today (or yesterday depending on your time zone) though, tracked back well and passed nicely. I do agree with you - I think Palacio is best used as a substitute from now on, a clever but ageing striker who can figure out a defence if we haven't been able to. It should also help his fitness being used sparingly like that as well. But, like I say, his good performance will make him difficult to drop and I wonder if Mancini will play shaqiri from the bench.
