I refuse to believe the news about Godin to Cagliari. It does not make any sense at all from Inter side as well as Godin. Its not even make sense from Cagliari. While all top clubs tighten their budget, why would Cagliari spend money on wages for Godin even with much reduced salary. Same news report also said Cagliari is getting Fazio. It makes even more not make sense at all.

Its really weird mercato. every day its getting weirder.

Latest report from Sky is Cagliari cannot pay all Godin's salary so we need to help.

If true, makes even less sense for Inter. We dump Godin out to save the salary cost, but only part of it.

Something is just off. Can't figure out what the fuck is going on.

Godin is too influential and he's not even wanted by the coach who was forced to use either him or Skriniar, who weren't good fits for his system.

We just want to get rid of him. His huge salary helps the management accept the "sporting decision".

We tried shipping him to Turkey but he didn't accept. He's going tk stay in Europe.
Cagliari is a weird choice but if his wife is from there I get it. But this guy should push for a move to Napoli or even Milan where he could also start.

reports suggest we will lose 100m for last year. With non-redemption of Perisic, Nainggolan, JM, etc, this year, and the disrupted schedule + no crowds in the stadia, I wouldnt be massively surprised if the figure was comparable for this year too.

Gazzetta says that we safe important money and will try to get Kumbulla now. Verona wants 28 milions but Inter has Di Marco as joker to drop the price. Darmian would come instead of Rannochia that is going to Genoa.

this is the only scenario I would accept Darmian. Kumbulla is not better defender than Godin atm, but is more suited to 3-man defence and has a lot of potential. And both Darmian & Kumbulla are really versatile. Albanian can play in the centre, on the left and on the right, so there are a lot of new options than with Godin and Ranocchia who were sticked to only one position.

I’d understand if we got him 2 years ago. But we got him just last season, same owner, same director, same coach. Why did we get him if it doesnt suit the coach’s tactics/high salary? Is it the pandemic?

the rumors about agreement between Godin & Inter appeared in November, so maybe the deal was closed until Conte took charge.

We had sealed the deal for Godin before hiring Conte.

Romano reports Conte himself informed Godin after the EL final that even though he rates him and respects him as a player and professional he isn't a part of his plans because he prefers players with different characteristics.

I understand if that is the case. Anyway, we need to replace him with a good player then, not Darmian or Izzo.

Generally this just shows how random our recruitment policy really is (tune: Eriksen).

Ok this makes sense now, but was a stupid move by our management.

Even if thats the case pretty sure we promised diego the sky so he d come here for his last couple of years of top football. Kind of sad to now just be kicking him out and forcing him basically to a mid table team. Even more so after his performances clearly improved towards the end of the season as he got more familiar with the line up.
Thing that annoys me most is that we re not gonna replace him properly it will be kolarov and darmian we wont sign another CB pretty sure of that.

It s also weird that we feel obliged to follow through with our promises to Parma but not to our promises to Godin and that in the end this is what will make us replace Godin with Darmian/Kolarov which no matter how you turn it is just a terrible idea.

That all being said fuck conte once more as i m sure we d keep Godin if he had the slightest interest of keeping him around. As most likely will have to give him a golden handshake to leave us and go to cagliari. So chances are we re exchanging Godin with a worse player at a higher costs than keeping godin....

Fucken retarded than again imho non of our transfers made sense thus far with the exception of Hakimi.

Based on Cagliari director's comments it's clear now we are pushing Godin out and we will end up paying him a hefty severance pay. Which will mitigate the whole idea of saving salary costs.

Isn't there one year left on his contract? So we're forcing him out to save maybe a million in wages?

It's unclear to me atm. Was it 2 or 3 year deal? Was it 2 years + option for 3rd? I'm not sure anymore.

I'm more than fine with him leaving. He was never great at Inter. Of course he had a few very good performances, but that's just nothing compared to what he was capable of. I mean, he was brought here to be a mentor to our defenders, but in fact he ended up to be our second worst performer after Skriniar (from those who were supposed to make an impact in our defence).

He's a champ, but his time on top quality level of football is over. If he eventually ends up in Cagliari, I wish him nothing but the best of luck. He's a true professional though.

“Second worst performer” is not that bad when we had the best defense in Serie A and had only 4 regular starters tbh :p
