I don’t know how many young players have to fail at Inter and then ALSO not show any serious potential in any other team before we conceed that Inter is just pretty shit at either scouting or developing youngsters, and stop bringing in players like Agoume or Asllani into any serious discussion.
In the last 15 years I can literally count them by fingers of one hand: Balotelli, Coutinho, Bastoni and DiMarco are the only four whose breakout season was with us or who was our youth product and who eventually had any sort of success with us or elsewhere. Maybe Kovacic could be counted in as well, but he already had a full season as a starter in Dinamo Zagreb before coming to us.
Let’s just be a bit realistic about it.
Of course that if the youngsters do not get a chance to play, they cannot make it through. There is few examples here. During the banter era, when Inter decided to rejuvenate the team, we tried to impose some young players like JJ, Icardi, Taider, Kovacic, Brozovic, Belfodil. Some of them were obviously able to develop into top players, the rest not.
But, the fact is that they had opportunities enough. Same with Dimarco. He stayed only because we didn't have money to buy another Ansaldi or Dalbert. He wasn't promising at the beginning, but with the time he have improved a lot.
Bastoni was intended to go on loan, but the coach insisted to keep him, and Conte.even started to play him regularly. Zaniolo form another hand was also ready to make it in first 11, but the coach didn't care as he wanted washed Nainggolan.
You can get my point. I don't say that Asllani or/and Agoume will become top players, but we cannot find out until they get a fair chance. At least one of them. That cannot happen when the coach wants old farts like Klaassen.
I was really hyped about Samardzic's transfer, not only due to the player but also because with him we would have had 3 young players on the bench (Frattesi, Asllani and him), and Inzaghi would have been forced to use them, instead of a another Gagliardini.
