Ballack's contract was expired I think. He definitely joined Chelsea for free.

Zanetti confirms Juve switch
Monday 22 May, 2006
Inter midfielder Cristiano Zanetti has confirmed that he will be joining Juventus on a free transfer this summer.

“I am a Juve player,” the former Roma ace told the Tuttosport newspaper on Monday. “It was a decision which I made in the winter after long reflection.”

Zanetti has been strongly linked with a switch to the Stadio Delle Alpi for the last six months after it became clear that he wouldn’t be remaining with the Nerazzurri.

It was thought that he was specifically requested by boss Fabio Capello, whom he worked with at Roma in the past, and he’s confirmed that the Coach was the decisive factor.

“The presence of Capello at Juventus is a guarantee for me,” added the man who has spent most of this term on the bench.

“Inter did offer me the chance to stay in Milan with a new contract, but I have great faith and belief in Capello.”

However, it remains unclear whether both Capello and Zanetti will indeed be with the Old Lady next season.

The club are one of a number of clubs who are being investigated for alleged match-fixing during the 2004-05 campaign.

Should the outfit be found to have committed any sporting irregularities during that season, they could have their Scudetto taken away, have points deducted or even be demoted to a lower tier.

Although Capello was confirmed as the Bianconeri boss on Friday evening, it is unclear whether he would remain if they had to start in Serie B next term.

It's all set, C.Z to Juve. And so Dacourt comes to Inter to replace C.Z. Can't say I actually have any special feelings about this transfer, probably just like Favalli's for me.

I can't see that CriZan will come with Juve to B/C1/C2, but he's their's now. Dacourt instead of CriZan. Doesn't mean that much.

Wonder how he's feeling at the moment? Playing in Serie B (at least) next season and now Capello (a good part of the reason why CZ left) jumping ship to Spain. Enjoy Cristiano. :D

Shouldnt this thread be moved to the former players section?

Anyways I have nothing to say about a very average player who chose to leave Inter for a second division club :D .

Have fun in the lower divisions with the Ceebras CZ. :yuck:

To think that this dude is the reason Inter didn't sign Nesta.

It was fucking Galliani

Threatened to relegate/penalize Lazio for their financial problems if they sell Nesta to us

Galliani was the Lega Calcio/Serie A president

I think at some point Lazio requested only Cristiano Zanetti plus money for Nesta and Inter rejected as they didn't want to lose Cristiano. I don't know about the Galliani effect but I'm sure that's possible.

Yes, Cuper did not want to lose C. Z.

But I dont think he ever played C. Z much anyway.
