My issue with Biraghi against Sassoulo is that he conceded and gave too much space to Berardi who basically had freedom to operate down our left side. I expected him to man mark or be closer to Berardi but attack after attack, Biraghi conceded space and was often too far away to catch up with or stop Berardi. I understand that there will be times in a match a when a player or a team concedes space to their direct opponent or the opposition but it felt that Sassoulo were attacking at will down our left side and there was little we could do to stop them.

I understand that building a team is a process and that it takes time. I also understand that a great team cannot be built in a single transfer window. But the match against Sassuolo is a good indication of where we are as a team: our starters are strong and they know exactly what is required of them. But once tiredness sets in and a few substitutions are made, our quality drops and the team loses is structure. Biraghi playing for Asamoah is good example of that and it shows that we also need to focus on squad depth and the players that are going to rotate with our starters as well as our substitutes.

With regards to Asamoah, I too feel that he is a little predictable. He is also quite conservative in the way he interprets his role. Conservative in the sense that he appears to to place a greater value on defending rather than attacking. Or maybe it is simply the case that he is getting older and cannot attack as well as he used to. When I think about our wing backs, I often think how Maicon would frequently attack and that was our best form of defence because his direct opponent was always on the back foot. But when I think of Asamoah, he is more content to defend and not concede as opposed to attacking and scoring.

One game does not make a season. But Biraghi has to significantly lift his game or the club needs to find a solid player that does not make our left side look like Europe's open and porous borders.

you have only seen him playing for Fiorentina, a fucking midtable club. he is 27 years old which means he fully embedded the mediocrity mentality. it's gonna take him a couple of seasons at least to overcome the pressure of the big club. Dimarco on the other hand can develop faster as he is yet to enter his 22
Had to quote my own post and I am still behind it. If you Conte still insist on an Italian to play (which I am not against) you better play Dimarco

Since his full 90 minute match with the Italian team, he has perfomed poorly. Machini cost us two fullnacks and I hope he doesn't do the same with our midfielders.

Can we send him back to Fiorentia and get Dalbert back in January?

Worst player - by far - yesterday.
You can see the difference between a smart player like Candreva (yes, Candreva!) and some midtable Serie A player.

It would be a nice story if Biraghi could be a decent option for us for the left wingback position but he's simply not good enough. He's just a midtable Serie A player. Nothing more, nothing else. We need to buy a starting left wingback next summer.

Thought he actually did well to hold for 65 mins while on a yellow. Difficult to attribute the collapse yesterday to a single player, and even if we were doing that I don't think it was Biraghi.

He showed yesterday that he is not worth redeeming. Lacks pace, can’t beat his man and his crossing is so-so. Send him back to Florence at the end of the season.

Fuck this guy, I was hoping he'd be a starter ahead of Asamoah (just because I dislike his offensive output, he's good though) but after getting a yellow in the first fuckin minute last night and most importantly to his extreme reaction on a foul he caused after almost judu throwing (by holding the shirt) an opposition player in our last league game I'm convinced the guy is as dumb as they come.

Bit harsh but more or less accurate. And pretty much what I was trying to say to the guys who wanted Biraghi to start over Asamoah.

It really is like having two D'Ambrosio's on the left - one of them (Asa) is a bit better with the ball, dribbles more, and is faster. The other (Biraghi) has a better cross, a better shot and is better in the air. They are slightly different types of players with a barely negligible difference in quality.

I like both players, really. Both are useful squad options but the problem is that neither is particularly high class. Been saying since we were linked to the guy to begin with but Asamoah needs to be the rotational option like he was at juve. We won't achieve much more than 2nd place if our idea of 'squad depth' is two 6/10 players in the same position.

Both LBs are ass. Why didn't we go for Lazzari last summer?

Maybe our management confused Lazzari with Lazaro, since they are not exactly the brightest out there.

Playing on a yellow card for 89 minutes didn't help. And then Skriniar also picking up a yellow relatively early. Dortmund took advantage of that with Hakimi and Sancho bombarding that left side over and over again. It was only a matter of time before it paid off.

He hasn’t really contributed in attack on top of not being good defensively. I would give de Marco a game or two. as of now I would send him back Fiorentina.

Who would be a good buy for LWB’S??

We definitely need a new LB next summer. Asa is a perfect rotation player. Biraghi too but he's only on loan and we have Asamoah on contract so the choice is easy (Asa has a relatively big salary so he's not sellable really).

Eternal fucking quest. :D

Our LB's (and LWB's) have been so tragic over the years (well decades now I guess lol) we'll gladly settle for mediocrity like Asamoah. Shooting for the stars as always our club.

I dont know if someone noticed, but he almost conceded a penalty after being outpaced by some Dortmund player. So far he is worse than Asa, unfortunately.

Glad this puts an end to the Biraghi is good enough debate. Himself and D'Ambrosio need to be backups vs shit league teams. Not starting in big CL games.

Asamoah is the far better player and always has been.
